View Full Version : Hitting high on the string-bed...
I've noticed from looking at my strings the past couple weeks that I've been hitting higher and higher on my strings.
Is this an indication that I should experiment with extended length racquets or start focusing more on aim?

I understand that this is normal at this days. Hitting high alloy you to generate more power. In my case, hit a little high too.
I think that a lot of new racquets have extended the sweestpot area to the upper 1/3 of the stringbed. Look at the Volkl website the explanation of the V-ENGINE tech!

I think you should keep your racquet, hitting high on the string bed generates more power.

Put some lead at 10 & 2 to raise the sweetspot.
thanks guys. I guess that is one thing I DIDN'T know.
btw, nviati I've leaded up under the bumper and prolly won't benefit any further if I leaded at 10 and 2 too.

I actually find a great place to add lead is beside your hitting "zone", so it'd probably be a little bit upwards of 3/9 o'clock. Doesn't add restrictive amounts of swingweight, either.

The best place to hit is in the center of your rackets sweetspot since this provides the greatest power and least amount of bad vibration returned to your arm. The OS rackets have larger sweetspots and are thus more forgiving in "off center" hits. I would suggest trying to get your hitting more consistent rather than looking for ways to increase the forgiveness of the racket you use.

The location where you get the greatest ball speed, technically where the coefficient of restitution is the greatest, varies depending on the type of shot you are hitting. For shots where the head of the racquet is moving much faster than the handle, like a serve, the location where the coefficient of restitution is highest is high on the stringbed, possibly even above the sweetspot (which by the way is just a vibrational node). For shots where the handle and the head of the racquet are moving at about the same speed, like a volley, the location with the greatest coefficient of restitution is nearer the longitudinal center of mass, or much lower on the stringbed.

Thats very true as described in the Physics of Tennis.
Seems soo simple when hitting and easy to forget when trying to explain.
Thanks for the correction
