View Full Version : Lost timing on my serve...
i've recently been using the Roddick foot position for my serve - seems to have made a far more consistent second serve, with nice pace...but today i just lost timing on it...i end up hitting it way too late, and therefore, too low - this, obviously has disastrous effects - i mean, the balls are slower, way off target and basically crap - i double faulted 3 times in 4 serves to lose the fastest serve game in history lol - what do i do when this happens - i find i don't get too much time to just practice serving which is a problem...

I've experienced that sometimes when I'm lazier in practice.
It helps a lot if you try to exaggerate your tossing-arm-stretch up more towards the ball. What happens is that your swinging arm will spring and catapult towards the ball almost automatically and naturally. Eventualy over time (could be within minutes or after 20-30 serves) you end up firing missiles without effort. After ball contact you think to yourself "Did I just hit that? I didn't even try to think to intentionally aim for power and control. I just stretched up and reached for the ball with my tossing arm and the swing happen in a blink of an eye! WOW!"
That should fix it (of course if you have proper technique to begin with!). This tip works for the good servers who happened to be stumbling in a momentarily bad slump. It's a quick fix tune-up (if you will).

oh that happens to me alot but I don't brood over it. I just let it pass. There will be days where your tennis won't work for you. For me, there are many.
