This question pertains to singles and doubles... I usually stand right at the middle when playing singles and about half way when serving doubles (and I've never hit a partner on a serve! :D ) but I'm watching Hewitt right now and noticed that he stands about 5-6 feet away from the center line. Granted Hewitt is faster than I am, is it advisable to stand so far away? You're aiming over the lower part of the net, but you're also giving up more room on the side. What's the general consensus on where to stand?

Hi, the farther away from the centre line you stand, the greater angle you can create. It's a great place to serve from if you want to open up the court for serve and volleying or for hitting that big forehand (or bh). Todd Martin was also known for standing really wide of the service line, although he did it more for serve / volley purposes. Experiment!
