View Full Version : Broken grommet and restringing

Recently a grommet on the top of my bro's racket (wilson ncode npro)snapped off halfway into the racket's frame so that the remainder of the grommet is still separating the string from the frame. Would it be safe to restring his racket under these conditions? Help always appreciated

I would not suggest having a Racquet Strung if it has a broken Grommet.
My suggestions would be to bring it to your local shop, and have them use a Grommet Grinder and replace that specific Grommet, or to replace it with an entirely new Bumper and Grommet.
Otherwise, the odds are greatly increased that the money you will spend on a new String job will be short lived, as the broken Grommet will help lessen the time it will take to break once again.
Hope that helps,

I just replaced a bumper guard/grommet set on a Babolat a few hours ago.
You could "tube it" as a temporary fix, although some people leave them in forever. That's placing the string through a piece of nylon tubing at the broken grommet site.

One grommet and if the bumper guard was still in good shape--I'd tube it also, or as 6pntne says, you could get individual grommets. Tubing is easiest solution though.
