Will Baghdatis equal Wilanders 1982 record of winning 4 matches against top 10 players to win this tournamnet? I am going against the odds here:

BAGHDATIS WILL BEAT FED!!

The stars are all aligned so that Bag will win. Safin,Nadal, Agassi are all out and Fed is playing hurt...plus Bag has his own private cheering section. Fed is very sensitive to all court conditions. He will go down!

Wilander didn't just beat four top 10 players, he beat four top 5 players!

Didn't Cañas did the same on MS Toronto '02?
Beating 5 top 10?

Winning a slam is quite a bit bigger than winning a MS, don't you think?

R64: Federer (10)
R32: Srichaphan (Q)
R16: Kafelnikov (5)
Q: Safin (2)
SF: Haas (3)
F: Roddick (12 at the time but became #8 after that match, so it's pretty much the same)

4 top 10, or 5, if you'll willing to give that up ;)

I find winning against 4 top ten in a MS or a GS pretty much the same. They're are four Top10 after all...

(Maybe a GS, because of the five setters, but still) ;)

I strongly disagree with that. Canas might be a hall of famer with a slam win(providing he never failed a drig test) The toronto win doesn't mean much in the big picture.

Anyway, I have no idea if that Canas win is that rare in MS play. They've been playing those since 1990, I wouldn't be surprised if other players beat 4 top 10 before(Portas, Woodruff, Carretero, perhaps?)

Wilander beat 2(Lendl),3(Vilas),4(Clerc),5(Gerulaitis) to win the French in '82.

Edit:now I'm not exactly sure that those were top 5 players at the time. McEnroe, world #1, didn't play. So all seeds moved up one spot. So Gerulaitis was probably ranked #6 at the time, but was seeded #5.

Baghdatis' run has been fantastic and could not have happened to a more deserving person and people, especially after all the things the poor Iraqis have gone through this last few years.

holy crap!!!!...mcenroe may have been number one but not a very good pick for the French.

Whatchu' been smokin', boy? :)

Federer can go very deep when he must. Did you see that 3rd set today? Hmm, hmm...nasty, nasty.

Baghdatis is an awesome talent, but he will depositing the loser's check into his bank.

Fed is bothered by details. The wind, the sun, the surface. Like a samurai warririor he is in tune with nature and harmony. He can feel evferthing.....the bag crowd will destroy Feds harmony with his surroundings.
