The Victorinan Govt is willing to give citizenship to Marcos.

But looks like he is too passionate about Cypriotic Tennis.

He can avoid the mandatory military service he has to do for
more than 2 years in Cyprus if he takes Australian Citizenship ? maybe ???

... this offer was truly embarrassing and uncalled for and, in fact, offensive IMO!!!
No way would Marcos Baghdatis accept this!!

He won't have to do it anyway. The cypriote president has already nullified his MMS.

The German government is willing to give a citizenship to Agassi. But he is said to stay American although he has an German wife and his kids speak German.

However Canada would be sure to accept him if he wished. We are lacking any good tennis players, and there are thousands of Greeks and Lebanese here who would be happy to sponsor him. On the other hand, why would he want to leave his family and Cyprus? No reason IMO

If you represent a country in Davis Cup but then switch your citizenship to another country, are you allowed to play for that country? Or is it like soccer where once you commit to a nation, you can't play for anyone else?

BTW, in nation-switching news that nobody cares about, I think Eric Taino and Cecil Mamiit are going to play Davis Cup for the Phillipines because they couldn't sniff a look from P-Mac on the US roster.

You only switch the country of your birth if the situation is intolerable due to political, human rights, or financial l reasons. Marcos isn't going anywhere.

Sounds like political grandstanding. It is offensive to even make the offer. Glad it wasn't the US for a change...

Joke:
Q: What's a 747 full of politicians crashing into the ocean?
A: A good start.

Cyprus is helping him financially...should get a few more days of coaching out of this..

Baghdatis is expected to receive a hero's welcome when he returns to Cyprus on Friday. He will receive 150,000 Cyprus pounds ($316,300) from the state as a gift from the people and his home town of Limassol plans to name a street after him.

His mother had a gall stone attack as soon as his leg cramped, and she watched the rest of the finaol from a hospital bed! She's fine now.

I think Marcos would want to always be a true cypriot and a cypriot only.
