What's the difference with 16 and 17 gauges?

17g is thinner than 16g, therefore thinner gauges have more power

I've never read anything that supported the idea that thinner gauges have more power. Thinner strings are usually less durable than thicker gauges. Thinner strings usually have more spin potential than thicker gauges (some argue the reverse). Also, most players feel a difference in hitting comfort between the gauges although players differ in which gauge they feel is the most comfortable. There are definite differences, but how you feel about those differences is mostly opinion. Try them out and see which you prefer.

Take a look here for a good overview of strings, including gauges;
