So many of the new racquets coming out have white grips on them. First it was the M-Fils, now the new O3s and new Flexpoints.

Are the manufacturers trying to create a new market for replacement grips or something?

yeah, so you would have to buy more new replacement grips and overgrips.

Black and leather grips are the thing of the past. Players who prefer to play without an overgrip will have to do with the white first, and then buy another replacement grip.

Smart idea, but most people use overgrip.

not only do most people play with an overgrip, but now the damn things are white too....

Many of the pros now use white overgrip. Mass market racket consumers want what the pros use and many may not know overgrip exists. Therefore, racket makers produce rackets with white grips that look just like the pros'. I started using white overgrip when it first came out about ten/fifteen years ago because I could monitor the wear and dirt level much better. I also preferrred white gauze over the green variety back in the 1970's...

White grips will also have a tendency to be replaced more than black, resulting in higher sales volume...

I hate the white grips. I also hate the fact that there are fewer and fewer racquets with leather grips.

I bought leather grips for my racquets then put a white overgrip for a little extra moisture control. :P I like the way it feels much better than my previous black synthetic grips.

IMO, white grips and overgrips are a good idea. People tend to not replace often enough the black and darker colored ones, because "they still look ok". However, if they're white or lighter colored, they'll look like crap when it's time to change them.

?!? Ah...do a little research; there are plent of people, rec or pros players that are using leather grip. They use over wrap (white or not) on top of it.

I've used overgrips myself in the past, but they add about a half grip size, mute some of the ball feel, and make the bevels harder to feel. I prefer to play without them.

I demoed the O3 White (with white grips) last week and it arrived with the plastic still on the grip. This isn't the first time I've demoed a brand new racquet from TW, but it's the first time they left the plastic on the grip. Out of respect for their property and others who wouldn't want to see my hand grime, I left it on and just put an overgrip on it.

Lol. This reminds me of the time in which I rented a 4Runner for a holiday trip and, when they brought me the car, it was brand new (zero miles). It was wierd, because I, normally, don't care much for rented cars and it shows on how I treat them, but this one I kind of took care of :)

I use a leather grip with a white overgrip. I don't get the white color for any reason other than some people, myself included, feel that it is more tacky than say, a blue, red, black, etc one.

Actually what he is referring to I believe are new racquets. It is true that there are very few racquets that come stock with leather grips these days.

To a degree, I think Ripper is right. People don't change their grips enough. But, I think the marketing people realized that if they made grips white, they'd show more grime, etc, so people would change them whether they really needed to or not. More grime showing == more sales $$$.

But white overgrips simply look better, and match with any color of racquet out there. It does make everyone switch out grips more because of the color change, but it also looks better.

Um, technically they're not actually using the leathergrip if they have overgrip on it. Back before, people used to buy the replacement leather grip, without overgrip because they liked the feel of the leather.

What is the point of buying the leather replacement grip, when you'll just wrap a white overgrip over it? I used to use leather replacement grip because I liked the feel of it.

You just answered your own question. People prefer the feel of leather combined with resiliency and tack of overgrips.

I use leather with Wilson Pro over it also. I can feel the bevels better and I think Wilson Pro feels the best.

Forget about the white overgrips, orange and lime green are where it's at!

I do it because after adding the overgrip, the bevels come through more clearly and it doesn't feel as mushy if there's leather underneath.

I use leather with 3 layers of tournagrip on top because even if im in the middle of a match and the grip has worn out i just take off 1 layer and i get the feel back
