Maybe b/c of all the hoopla at the Aussie Open this year, DYs showing at USA F3 hasnt gotten alot of attn. There was a post about him and Jenkins a week or so ago. He's started the year ok, he lost 1st rd at F1 & F2, but did alot better this week.

We'll probably see him at the Challengers starting next week.

Marin Cilic, however, did way better. He beat Andreev in the 1st rd at Zagreb.

Good news for Young. I still think he can be a great player in a couple of years. Playing Futures, Challengers, and Juniors instead of taking wild cards into ATP tournaments is the road for him.

It's been a good couple of days for the juniors. Junior #2 Marin Cilic beat Andreev in Zagreb and can reach the quarters if he beats Andreas Seppi today.

Meanwhile, 17 year old Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro beat Albert Portas 6-2, 6-2 in the first round in Vina Del Mar, and has a chance to pull off a huge upset if he can beat Fernando Gonzalez today. Potro is the youngest player in the Top 200 after playing a host of Futures and Challengers in 2005 to boost his ranking. The win over Portas was his ATP debut.

And Portas is one of the oldest players...Nov 15 '73. I had forgotten all about the Drop Shot Dragon, another fun player to watch.

that's a more natural progression for DY

Well all 3 opponents he beat were pretty low ranked. The highest ranked player was #542. The guy who beat him 6-1, 6-2 in the semis is ranked #342.

Still it makes more sense than going into a main draw of a regular ATP event and losing in the first round all the time.

The level of competition at Futures is pretty high. Scoville Jenkins lost 2nd rd at USA F2 and he had two ATP level wins last year, Chris Guccione is 2-0 against Ferrero. The guy that took Hewitt to 5 sets at the Aussie started the year playing Futures last year. The biggest disadvantage Young has is his lack of size.
