View Full Version : Topspin Forehand

Normally, I hit with either an eastern or 2H forehand. But, recently, my forehand has become rather suspect, and I figured I might try some new things, since I'm not playing at a high enough level that it might take me a very long time to learn the basics of a new stroke. I was thinking that perhaps I might change at least expermentally to a semiwestern or fully-western grip, but I'm not sure if I understand exactly how to hit them well.

I understand the basics of the 'millenium' (IE, the western-grip, forehand waist to backhand waist) forehand, but I wanted to know if there was another method more similar to my eastern forehand, and less... silly. I mean, hitting the millenium forehand I feel like I'm making a very funny joke, even though the ball does come off with plenty of spin and pace. So is there anything that would make me feel less terrible about my swing path?

I'd rather not learn the hawaiian, even though they tell me it's good for learning the western. I have some degree of wrist pain and stiffness due to too much computer time.

Anyways, any advice would be nice; I just want to learn to hit a heavy, safe topspin forehand right now. And yes, I do know how to hit a reverse forehand, but I don't have the faith that it will flatten out enough to stay low and not... say... turn into a lob.
