what kind of serve tosses do you guys have? I have a straight toss thats just enough. By just enough I mean, the ball just reaches its climax, then I hit it. Super high means you have to wait for it to come down.

I have a quick little toss. Sometimes, I don't even wait for the ball to reach highest point, maybe an inch below it. But usually I have a very short (not low) toss... so the motion is really quick.

Not sure exactly whatcha mean by a rainbow toss. I've heard of a J-toss which has a bit of a semi-circle at the start of the toss motion.

How about a poll asking if ppl's service toss is parallel to the base line (which promotes a whole lot of torso rotation), out toward the target direction of the serve (much less torso rotation), or somewhere in between. My own is option 3 (but fairly close to option 1)

Sounds like the old Roscoe Tanner service. Roscoe played for Stanford in the early '70s before going pro turning pro. He had the biggest serve back in the day & supposedly hit the toss on its way up (before it peaked).

by rainbow toss, i mean you throw it up, and the ball kinda floats like a rainbow over your head, and then you bend your back. Most often used with kick serves. Some pros use a straight toss like james blake, but he can still hit with spin.

Yeah, I've seen lots of Roscoe's serving delivery. Pretty SCARY. That's pretty much how my toss it's like...

Daniele Bracciali also tosses that way ...

Hmm... well, I toss it as a "rainbow" into the court, and just high enough that my arm can use the time it needs to wait to coil my body.
