As a follow-up to this earlier thread (see http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=90887), am still on the lookout for the right shoe (as a replacement to my NB 820 and Nike Air Max Resolve, not Resolve Plus).
I am in the unusual predicament of having wide feet (but not too wide to go for 2EE widths) and when I wear my Thorlos, the 'wide' condition gets excacerbated. My feet size is 11.0.
I spent an hour or so at G O L F S M I T H trying various shoes y.day. Both the Barricade II as well as the Barricade IV's are ruled out; they are too narrow. I have to go for the 11.5 in the Breathe Free II to get a comfortable fit width-wise, but that leaves too much space in the toe-box, so sadly, the BFII gets eliminated too (loved the light weight of this shoe).
So that leaves the Nike Air Max Resolve Plus, which I tried and found ok. I do have apprehensions on the weird toe guard though. Snoflewis_&_others_who_wear_this --- what are your impressions?
I also perused through various threads and generally found good reviews on the Upset DMX (which I haven't tried on yet). vkartikv/Backcourt/Devilish_Duke/others: since you have now hopefully experienced couple of months of wear on your Upset DMX's, can you share some feedback and pros_&_cons of this shoe? The added incentive in favor of the Upset DMX is that it also provides fantastic value_for_money, so I am really interested in your feedback.
Thanks,
Kartik [jaykay], NTRP 4.0 all-court player, Flexpoint Instinct.

I previously wore the Resolve and now wear the Resolve plus and so far I like it just as much. The toe guard doesn't do anything in my opinion, it just kind of looks weird. Definitely nothing to be concerned about.

JayKay, I've been wearing the upset DMX for a few months now, though I only play once a week on average in the winter, and they show no significant signs of wear. THey have a great toe guard for draggers like myself, good cushioning and are very comfortable. I have a 2E, not a 4E foot and they fit very well width wise. Barricades are too narrow for me. I definitely recomend the DMX's especially at $49 on TW.

Backcourt - thanks for your speedy response. I did get the Reebok Upset DMX and hv already put in about 3 hours of play with it. Really liked it - good cushioning/comfort, perfect fit for my medium-to-high arch and moderately wide feet.
My shin splints seem to be back though. I am not entirely sure if the shoe is to blame. I read thru (almost) all the posts on shin splints on the Health/Fitness forum and am still not sure on what is the way forward.
Can somebody recommend some good (but not too expensive) insoles/shoe_inserts that I could buy over_the_counter and hopefully provide some addl cushioning that may reduce/prevent the effect of shin splints?
Your advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

Are you my namesake???? Wow, its a small world.
I have been using the upset dmx for about 6 months now. I was using the wilson fantoms before that. The fantoms were very comfortable but the toe started tearing in 3 months of use.
The reeboks are very strong and only show dirt, no wear and tear. One thing I found the reeboks to be lacking was heel support. The fantoms had the dst 02 (something like that) support but the reeboks don't. I play s&v so I rush to the net during my serve and chip and charge during returns, so at the end of the day, some extra heel cushioning would be good. If you are looking for a shoe thats 9/10 for durability and 7.5/10 for playability, the reebok is a good choice.
I got my nephew a pair of the wilson crossfires, they offer much better support than the dmx but they are slightly expensive. You might want to give those a try. BTW, are you a 4E too?
p.s. the upset dmx is a little bigger than what the size indicates, I had to use 3 pairs of socks to make it fit.
Forgot to add - I am forbidden from using nike.adidas so I cannot comment about the resolve. My (ex)girlfriend won't let me buy them since they are supposedly manufactured by little underage children. Check this out too..

vkartikv: yep, I am indeed your namesake and it is a really small world. I suspect that I don't play as well as you, though... but am getting there.
I am not a 4E, but I should be just short of a 2E. The Barricades, which everybody seems to be a huge fan of, are terribly narrow upfront for me.
As mentioned in my earlier post in this same thread, I went ahead and got me the Upset DMX, though I suspect that this may also be manufactured by little children in 3rd world countries, not unlike Nike/Adidas (!).
I don't wear 3 pairs of socks but wear Thorlo's with size-3 cushioning (I probbly will scale down to size-2 cushioning since it is getting warmer here in TX of late).
Hv you had an issue with shin splints with the Upset DMX's?

jaykay, I have had no issues whatsoever with the upset dmx. I got them online so I didn't get to try them on before wearing them so I didn't know that they ran half size bigger. That was the only issue.
Which part of Plano do you inhabit. I make quarterly visits to Preston/spring creek.

Spring Creek & Preston is not too far from where I live. I live at Independence and McDermott; a little bit north-east of the place you visit --- we hv a nice tennis court in our home community. I play the league at Highpoint Tennis Center at Spring Creek & Alma.
Drop me a line when you come to this part of the world next; I'm sure I'd would enjoy hitting a few balls w/ you.
Whr do you live (besides your primary residence, viz. Julia Stiles' dreams)?
