I am sure there are gay atp players, currently active. In the past, I only know of one for sure, Bill Tilden, one of the greatest players in tennis history. I suspect Wayne Ferreira is gay but nobody has come out. It is much more accepted in the WTA. The women are much more mature and accepting of it so it's not really a big deal. The straight men are not very accepting of it. Perhaps the sponsors are not accepting of it either.

As tennissavy said, the women seem to be a lot more mature about it all. Heck..women in general (not just the female tennis players) seem to be a lot more comfortable with the gay thing than men.

Gotta be a few gay guys on the circuit...on numbers alone. Out of what, a couple or three hundred regulars, there must be a handful per hundred, right? Maybe more.

It is a global, individual sport, so a lot of the disadvantages to coming out of the closet are not as THERE as they are in the major team sports. In fact, if one or two top pros came out and their agents did it right...they would stand to gain a lot.

Poor Tilden's personal life was made public because his enemies were trying to discredit him. In his time, being gay was even more frowned upon than today so it was used against him. They called him a pedophile though his lads were not very young by today's standards, maybe even legal age these days. It's not like he was touching 13 year olds. Sampras is/was conservative too. I remember an old Nike commercial where Agassi would say something and Sampras would say something the complete opposite, showing how different they are. The Coldplay thing was just a gay reference in a recent Steve Carrell movie. I actually dig a few of the piano hooks, too. Very melodic, but Martin's lyrics and whining leave 'em short of Radiohead or U2 for me. Even Oasis, in my opinion.
