View Full Version : Taking supplement for joints
There are a lot of supplements for strengthening joints. Not of all them tasty. A kind I looked at is extracted from animal joints/bone, in some powder form.
Are they helpful? What is your experience? Thanks.

Have you already done a SEARCH? I cannot believe all those threads on this topic are *gone*.

I have used Glucosamine and was pleased with the results. It was in pill form and did not have to mess with mixing a powder.

I have been using the liquid for 3-4 months. I think it has helped. I am recovering from knee surgery and was willing to give it a go...
They say it doesn't work for everyone -

I have been ingesting a supplement in liquid form that contains Glucosamin, Chondroitin and MSM for over a year now and it seems to help me (perhaps some of it is really 'in the head'). They say that ingesting joint supplements for 8-12 wks is a prerequisite for experiencing some relief.
I have had ACL reconstruction surgery in my rt knee, early onset of osteoarthritis in both knees and mild chondromalacia patella in the left knee. I cannot stay away from tennis, though.
Besides the joint supplement that I take everyday, I also ensure that I DON'T play tennis on consecutive days (I play thrice a wk) in order to prevent over-use injuries and I ice my knees after every session of tennis in order to keep down inflammation. I also use a doctor-prescribed brace on both knees (which is similar to Cho-Pat's dual action knee strap, only longer). All this seems to help.
Knee pain is also considerably reduced if you build muscle mass (esply quadriceps), so exercising a lot of discipline during physiotherapy (after surgery) and hitting the gym atleast twice a wk (to strengthen legs) when you get back to your normal active lifestyle is a good idea.
Good luck!
