Tommy, constant pull machines will create a stringbed that is 10% stiffer than a crank/lock out machine. So, your stringer was correct in lowering the tension, assuming he knew what type of machine it had been strung on before.

Tommy,

Hold your ground with that stringer if you feel that the strings are too loose. The stringer should have told you about his plan to string your frame at a tension lower than what you requested BEFORE he strung it. He should not have just taken the liberty to string your frame at a tension other than what you requested.

The person who had previously strung your frame with a lockout machine may have already compensated by stringing your frame at a higher tension.

When you hit with it if they feel too loose, I would take it back to him and ask him to re-string it at the higher tension.

That being said, I hope that you like the way that it was strung.
