Hell yeah it's worth it. Here's a good story. LAst year I bought a brand new PS 6.0 85 w/plastic still on the Fairway for $75 in my grip size!!!!! The tennis shop owner had no idea what it (rac. or grip) was worth. Great find!

You can get leather grips for $3 or less. Go to a thrift shop and buy an old wood racquet and reuse the leather grip. Most of the time they are too short for two-handers but I've used them anyway. Sometimes you can find perforated ones and old Fairways. The surface may be worn out and thinner than new ones but with an overgrip it's fine. You'll need some double sided tape to install.
