A tennis match is going to take place and here are the participants:

Player A: A 4.5 NTRP who has played in those leagues at that level for several years. He is 37-40 years old.

Player B: A somewhat natural athelete who who has never played organized tennis of any sort and who would have to "dig his racquet out of the garage." This player is 25.

Who wins? What does the score look like?

Player A would win 6-0, 6-0.

Player A not only wins, but drinks beer and eats doughnuts during the changeovers.

Score: 6-0 X 3.

Player A, 6-0, 6-1. Player A allows Player B to win a game so he doesn't get too discouraged.

Are you player A? If so, you have nothing to worry about and I'd settle for nothing less than a bagel.

You can be the iron man winner for the last decade, if you havn't picked up a raquet and praticed your strokes for the last year you're going to get handled by a 4.5 player.

There's to much technique and control that goes with the game of tennis to just pick up a raquet and be able to beat people.

What I've found since coming back to the game is that, and this may be true of most sports, Experience beats Youth and/or Athleticism 99.9% of the time. I've played several guys that have 10-20 years on me, are out of shape, can't run...but can hit every damn line and corner on the court.

Player A: 6-0, 3-0 before B feigns an injury and retires in disgust and dismay.

6-0 6-0 player A

It doesn't matter how athletic you are if you don't know how to play the game.
