I was reading Gabriella Sabitini's bio on WTAtour.com and it says this: "Extended Monica Seles 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 before losing in the first-ever five-set season-ending championships final in 1990".

Was this five set match just a one time thing for the WTA or what? Anyone know?

When the WTA year ending championship was in Madison Sq Garden the final use to be best of five.

The wta year end championship played a best of 5 set final from the early 80s to 1998. There was one other 5 set match-the '96 Graf-Hingis final. Hingis lost the 5th set 6-0, she was exhausted.
There were a few 4 setters over the years as well.
Its a shame they don't have it anymore.

nice sig, thats a side of goran I'm sure many love.

I agree, I think that they should at least play 5 in the slams.

It was an ugly side, only a handful of women, named Graf could easily play the five sets, Hingis was indeed exhausted, but also very young at the time. There was a lot of talk during the Graf era for five sets, only to keep Steffi on court longer, for she was famous for 40 minutes matches.
