Just read the yahoo news. Fed has to face some tough opponents. Imagine having to battle through all that and maybe face Nadal at the end. It's as tough as you can get!

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/scores/draws/ms/msdraw.pdf

His half contains Clement, Ancic, Acasuso, Robredo, Nalbandian, Gaudio, Ferrero, Moya, Gasquet, Davydenko....

Nadal's has Roddick, Stepanek, Ferrer, Haas, Safin, Gonzo, almagro, Hewitt, Hrbaty... LMAO

I dont find Fed's draw tough at all. Nadal is the one that will have to face Blake or Almagro in the quarters, tougher then anybody Fed would face.

I love the press: Look at the headline for MSNBC:

Federer gets favorable French Open draw

Roger Federer was given about as favorable a path through the French Open as he could have hoped in Friday's draw, while 2000 champion and 2005 runner-up Mary Pierce pulled out because of injuries.

That's from the AP sources.

What is so tough about Fed's draw? A past his prime Clement, fluke Olympic Champion Massu, clay court clueless Kiefer, erratic struggling Berdych, good clay courter but pusher-type player Robredo? Fed wont break a sweat until the semis probably. I think his draw is great.

If Fed doesn't break a sweat, then Nadal can play tennis with his racket in his feet.

Ok, lets see. Federer has to go through -

Acasuso, Robredo, Nalby, Gaudio, Davydenko - all of whom are solid threats on clay.

Kiefer/Ferrero/Clement - not as hot recently but top clay courters

Ancic/Berdych - aggresive youngsters who can take out anyone on a good day

Who does Nadal have to face?

Blake/Roddick/Bagman - non factors on clay, though I'd love to see Blake destroy Nadal again :)

Luby/Dr.Ivo - have had recent success on clay, doubt they'll do much at RG

Safin/Gonzo - Safin is always doubtful mentally, but guess what, they meet in the 1st round!!

The only decent threat I see is Almagro, who for all the recent hype, is still untested in slams.

Its plain as day to even a blind man that Nadal has the much easier draw by far. Even if Roger makes it to the finals, he'll have had a much tougher time doing so. Nadal will probably sleepwalk his way into the final.

Yes, Nadal has the easier draw. A little off topic...I don't know about you guys, but I bet Roddick will go out in the first round.

[QUOTE]Acasuso, Robredo, Nalby, Gaudio, Davydenko - all of whom are solid threats on clay.

Acasuso barely beat a tenative and sluggih Roddick 8-6 in the 5th last year on clay, as if he is a threat to Fed then. Robredo and Gaudio are pusher type players, Fed will eat them up. Davydenko and Nalbandian have had success on clay, but they are still better on faster surfaces, they will be lucky to even get far enough to play Fed.

Kiefer/Ferrero/Clement - not as hot recently but top clay courters

Kiefer and Clement top clay courters?!? Sorry that is not true at all, their best surfaces arent clay by a long shot. If Fed plays Kiefer it will be the biggest beatdown they have had so far, it wont be anywhere near as their last 4 tough matches on grass and hard courts.

Ancic/Berdych - aggresive youngsters who can take out anyone on a good day

Berdych is having a bad year so far, he isnt building on the promise he showed last year. Ancic is not a clay court player, and is way overhyped anyway. He can take a set off Fed on a very bad day on one of his favorite surfaces.

Who does Nadal have to face?

Blake/Roddick/Bagman - non factors on clay, though I'd love to see Blake destroy Nadal again :)

Even on clay Blake would be more of a threat to Nadal, then any of the players you listed a threat to Federer. I dont think Blake would beat Nadal but he is more of a danger in a match, even on clay, then any of the players you listed are to Fed.

Safin/Gonzo - Safin is always doubtful mentally, but guess what, they meet in the 1st round!!

If Safin gets going he could be a danger to Nadal as well. Nadal will still survive but if I was Fed or Nadal I be more worried about unpredicatable Safin then any of the players you listed in Fed's half.

The only decent threat I see is Almagro, who for all the recent hype, is still untested in slams.

Almagro is also more of a threat to either Fed or Nadal then a single player you listed in Fed's half.

yea, it's not tough to face Nalbandian or the other 3 or 4 french open winners.

He would only face one of those players, and that would be in the semis. That is only one match.

Also considering all 3 of those former French Open winners are past their primes, and Nalbandian is not a real clay courter it is likely none of those will make that semifinal matchup anyway.

Blake getting to quarters at FO that is almost as funny as saying that injured and severely out of form Hewitt will get to 4th round. Ain't gonna happen! Nadal is not playing them for sure. He will probably play Hrbaty or Karlovic in 4th round and Almagro in the quarters.

Blake was close to making the quarters in Hamburg. I think he can make the quarters if he plays well.

Ferrer, Almagro, Gonzales at the moment are in good form, so its not easy to win them even for Nadal.

Robredo, Nalbandian, Gaudio, Gasquet, Davydenko are playing competitive tennis on clay. Not easy for Fed.

As u see 3 for Nadal, 5 for Fed, so Fed's draw is really harder than Nadal's.

But Nadal is defending champion while Fed must prove he can become a champion. So it's very OBJECTIVE that he has tougher draw.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but there is just no way he will get to quarter final. In Hamburg he played best of 3 matches and at FO he needs to win 4 best of 5 matches to get to the quarter final. My guess he will beat Srichaphan in a tough 5 setter and then lose to Almagro in a 3 set blowout.

Safin's run out of luck. Playing Gonzo in the first round, this is as bad a first round match-up as he could possibly get. This just plain sucks.

Wouldn't it be a blast to see Karlovic serve and volley against Nadal?

Yep. If they play anywhere near the level they played at the Rome final then they will both get to the FO final without losing a single set.

I agree. They should hand Nadal the trophy now and Federer the runner up plate now, it is already done, YAWN! This years French Open for men is so boring, I wish nobody even showed up to cover it, and they only had womens coverage since the womens is so much more exciting this year.

[QUOTE=federerhoogenbandfan][quote=Defcon]Robredo and Gaudio are pusher type players, Fed will eat them up.

Robredo is a pusher? Are you serious? I do agree that he is way too mentally fragile to take out Fed in a high pressure match, but I would never describe him as a pusher. He plays pretty unusual for a Spanish claycourter IMO...hence his relative success on faster surfaces; much more aggressive and risk-taking.

Ok pusher was too strong a term, he has some agression and some forehand power, but he is not as agressive as players like Nadal or Moya.

No man, fed fans need to make this the "showdown". Build it up. Think of the rewards if he wins. He would have beaten the ultimate clay courter in the midst of the greatest clay court streak ever. You're not going to get this opportunity again. He's done the surveillance work (rome) and is now primed and ready. They better both get to the final.

Gaudio aint no threat 4 anybody...I mean the way he plays righ now, he'd get killed by anyone in the first or second round!

Neither draw is tough.

The only real competition for Fed and Nadal are Nadal and Fed.

Unless if something goes terribly wrong we should see them in the finals.

Safin's run out of luck. Playing Gonzo in the first round, this is as bad a first round match-up as he could possibly get.

I can think of some worse first round matchups he could have gotten...

Bogie
05-27-2006, 11:42 AM
blake has no chance of even making the quarters, so im not even gonna mention how badly he would get destroyed by nadal if they were to hypothetically meet on the red stuff.

almagro? nadal beat him in straights a few weeks back, not too much trouble.

roddick is a complete joke on clay and ill be verrrrrry surprised if he was to get past 2nd round at the most.

hewitt isnt much of a threat to anyone lately on any surface, so i doubt hell be much of a threat to one of the best clay courters if not the best in years.

nadal can pass stepanek all day long and radek cant compete with him from the back court, so not much trouble there.

ferrer was never up to par on clay with nadal and we all saw that in their last couple meetings, nadal is just too much for him.

haas isnt much of a dirt baller and tends to break down when playing grinders. not on much of a roll on any surface lately.

safin in a complete mental case, even more as of late than ever. been on a big slide lately and i dont see him coming out of it, as much as i hate to admit it, and regaining the position that he once had.

gonzo cannot keep up and grind out nadal and we saw that a few weeks ago where nadal just out played him from every part of the court and dispatched him fairly easily 6-4, 6-3

hrbaty? who are you bullsh*tting? no chance in hell.

nadal should have a fairly routine road to the finals and i can def see him defending his title this year. just my $0.02

You can't be serious? The players Fed are facing are very familiar faces, that he beats regularly on all surfaces, no of which give him a really hard time.

Now you see that the only people that could beat Fed or Nadal are some how all playing against Nadal, what are the odds of that?

Right away he has to face Safin, one of the players that can beat Fed, and then latter Blake, Nadals worst nightmare, Blake is the only player that can just completely sweep Nadal out. Then further players that he is not familiar with Haas, ect

How is that biased to Nadal, that is very ignorant indeed

I want to see Fed have to face Haas,Safin, Blake, Rodick, and Hewit before finals at Wimbledon, what are the chances of that happening?

Oh what is that? Zero? So why is it ok for Nadal have to face all them before finals in the FO? It is obviously staked against Nadal so that Fed can win.
