I have and I think they're pretty sweet. If you have a nike.net login (usually pro shops and/or tennis clubs have one) you can view these and other new stuff coming out soon.

Edit: Oh yeah, what's your question about em?

The Air Zoom Revive by Nike with interchangeable outsoles. One pair, many lives.

They look like the vapor speeds white but with a blue gel-like flag near the toe area

is he always going to wear blue at USO? he won it in 04 with the blue with the white vert. line on the sleeve, than last year with the obsidian/yellow shirt to match the shoes, so thi must mean that he is following a tradition.............and that he will be weaing blue vapor speeds!! anyone know what shoes he will be using at Wimby? will he stick to vapor speeds until next season?

These are on the frontpage here at TW now.

I have a question about these, can you buy just the outsole? Like if you wear out the two pair that come with the shoe.

tonysk83
06-16-2006, 05:02 PM
Yeah if the outsole is like 40 bucks for a replacement I'll definitely buy these, might wait for a TW review first, they look really sweet. I hope they come out with a clay outsole.

Seem a little cheesy to me. Cool idea, but we'll just have to see if the technology is effective. You may burn through the interior of the shoe before the cheapo replaceable outsoles.

Oh my god, if this works the way they say, this is THE shoes
I've been waiting for. Environmentally more correct shoes.
I've been feeling bad to throw away shoes just because
outsole is out. I hope insole locks outsole really securely....

$120? I think I'll pass

tonysk83
06-17-2006, 07:29 AM
120 is a very good price if you think about it. You get two outsoles. If you go through BFIII's within 2 months or so you just wasted 110 bucks, if you go through an outsole on these in 2 months, slap the other on and you get another 2 months out of them, then you can always buy replacement soles assuming them come out with them. Seems like a good deal to me.

True, if you can buy replacement outersoles for a decent price, it may be worth it. But we don't know how durable these shoes are. You may end up having to replace them every month :p

staedtler

Itd be interesting if they made different outsoles for the shoe. One for clay, grass, and hardcourts, etc...

But if I paid $110 for BFIII, I would wear it until I wear out the midsole
and put a hole thru the sole. :)

With Revive, I think I should be careful not to damage midsole/insole
right?

This is a great marketing strategy for Nike, especially those kids that want the look of two different shoes, simply by just replacing the outsole every time they play. And, make no doubt about it...these are Nike shoes....the swoosh is exaggerated to extend to almost the whole length of the shoe!

Adidas must be jealous right now.

actually...the warranty program on the Breathe IIIs is a lot better than the replaceable outsole system on the revives (unless time is an issue). if you wear out the breathe IIIs within 6 months, you get a new pair of shoes, so the shoe is much more stable and cushioned than before (and also cleaner). also, there are some places that shoes can wear out that isnt part of the replaceable outsole on the revives.

also to mention, this isnt really a brand new idea for nike. they had shoes for basketball about 6-8 years ago, where they had an inside sockliner w/ a replaceable covering for the shoe, so people could change teh entire appearance of the shoe, along w/ the outsole.

tonysk83
06-17-2006, 09:15 PM
Well I just used BFIII's as an example. I own BFII's right now and got screwed over by the warrenty since I had knee surgery right when I got the shoes and couldn't play for 3 months. A lot of expensive shoes don't come with a 6 month warrenty though. The only adidas shoe that does is the Barricade line, and the only nike shoes are the Breathe Free's from what TW says. Though I guess if you wear out your breathe free's before the 6 month warrenty is up, they become just as good a deal as the revives since you are basically getting 2 breathe frees for 110.

I have two concerns over Nike Revive (before I purchase).

1. Outsole is really securely attached ? I don't want to get
embarrassed because the outsole is taken off and behind me
when I anxiously get to the net to volley.

2. Can I purchase the outsole only later ?

Of course, isn't that the point? They probably will come out around the time they ship.

I'm not so sure. If outsole is purchaseable, TW page
would say it now, IMO.

But they don't ship for like 2 weeks. So they are in no rush to put them up for sale. No one even has the shoes yet. I imagine they will have an array of colors.

they dont need to sell the extra soles yet, You have two soles to begin with, should last at least 2-3 months right??

Ill be people start selling their spare soles on EvilBAY

06-18-2006, 01:49 PM
that looks like a pretty good idea, just that the outsoles look like plastic.. (like proper plastic).

but i have to laugh when someone goes "omg, $120 for those shoes", can't you people understand !?!? you're lucky!!! you get charged $120.... we'll get charged like £120... exchange rate is like 1.8 :/

Hewitt rulez
06-18-2006, 01:54 PM
I wonder if the outsoles will be soft for traction or hard for durability.

tonysk83
06-19-2006, 08:21 AM
Can't buy new outsoles? Wow, looks like I am just going to buy some BFIII's or Barricade IV's with the 6 month outsole warrenty.

fastdunn
06-19-2006, 10:46 AM
I can undestand manufacturer's reluctance to sell outsole only.
It's somewhat better for environment but it's not exactly
best for Nike in terms of profits. Then they can make the price
of outsole very profitable for them. Then there's dilema since
there's no point for consumers to buy outsole only unless they
are cheap enough...

nn
06-19-2006, 12:41 PM
sucks if they don't sell outsoles..why invent wheels if you don't want to sell

Thunderbrat

I think Nike has a chance for a real breakthrough here. I hate tossing my shoes out because I've worn a little hole in the toe when the rest of the shoe looks like it's brand new. These shoes could bring longevity, customizability, convenience, and enviornmental frendliness to a market that has felt a little played out in recent years.

I agree that Nike's strategy regarding the sale of outsole replacements will be key but I don't think that they'd necessarily be cutting into their own profits by offering them. Look at the reusable razor/shaving industry. They give you a good deal on a razor so that they solidify you as a customer and then they make their profit on the replacement blades.

What do you thing would be a fair price for one pair of replacements? If the shoes are $120 to start I think I'd pay around $35 for a pair of replacement outsoles.

And yes, call me a geek, but I'd probably by an extra set to match my racket, my favorite shirt, and my girlfriends underwear.

fastdunn
06-20-2006, 10:28 AM
Exactly thunderbrat(I mean not about your girl-friend's underwear).
Outsoles usually last 2-3 months for me.
I'm also over-pronator. Therefore even outsole wears out at
certain areas only. When midsole exposed a lot, the shoes
becomes risky to use on hard court. Then I had to throw
away the shoes. I sometimes threw away at Nike recycling box.

Anyway, if this shoes work out nicely, this is very benefitial
for environment. I have been demanding for more environment
friendly shoes via sending e-mails to shoe manufacturers.

Nike was most responsive and gave me the location of their
recycling center. Prince and Adidas replied but they just said
sorry, there's no help...
