'Sidearm service' of Conchita Martinez?

I read it in the recent issue of tennis magazine. Can anyone describe it for me? Thanks in advance,

G

Nope, don't remember anything in particular about her serve... I've seen her play once or twice, late in her career, but I didn't notice anything strange about her serve that I remember. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.

That picture doesn't look like anything but a regular serve.

It's not too much different than Dementieva's serve--lot's of side spin. She actually won Wimbledon one year.

The thing about her serve was that she would almost start swinging her racket before tossing the ball. She pretty much hit the ball on the rise, giving her a very quick motion, which I'm sure helped a lot on windy days. She was basically the anti-Graf.

Yep - that's how I remember it too. Almost like one day she was told by someone that she couldn't hit a good slice serve, and she spent the rest of her life trying to hit a very very very sliced serve ;)
