Be aware that no-one outside of the UK will understand "3.1" and that the LOWER the number, the higher the ranking. Come to think of it, no-one in the UK really understands the LTA or its ratings.
After the LTA ratings changed a couple of years ago, my 5.2 then became a 7.2. I looked at a chart comparing LTA and NTRP which said that potentially I was a 2.5!
Fortunately I ignored it! I played one tourney in Vancouver at an NTRP 4.0 and won my first round match against a 3.5 in 3 sets and then lost 2 & 2 to the 4th or 5th seed.
The LTA is just a joke and the ratings are even more laughable. IMO the NTRP self-rating is far more sensible. If you are 3.1, you are most likely a 5.0+ perhaps?
I cannot put into words the amount of disdain I have for the LTA and the way they do nothing to promote tennis for "ordinary" people.

I do have to add though that the improvements that they have made to their website are good! Their old site was so shockingly awful I eventually gave up looking on it - now I go on it almost every day!

Fortunately you can find many other sites that detail exactly what skill level each NTRP ranking applies to.
