Who cares about wimby. Its like watching paint dry. Lets move on to something far more exciting. Who do you think will win the US Open this year? I say Nadal will win it this year...any thoughts?

You didn't say what year in your poll, so I answered "yes." I think he will win it in his career, at least once. Not sure about this year, but with that type of mentality, can't count the guy out.

Really, FUA, I don't know why you are so sarcastic to people who aren't being sarcastic at all. I understand your frustration that Federer's only 4 losses this year have been to Nadal, and that his grasscourt run is a bit amazing. I don't know if it was you or federerhoogenbandfan who said that Rafa's "seeding" at Wimbledon was appropriate as he'd lose in the second round, but that didn't happen.

It wouldn't have surprised me if it did, but it didn't. And Rafa is into the second week at a major on grass. Go figure!!!

All right, well I think it is safe to say that at least 2 votes need to swing the other way, since the voters were confused. That makes the real score at the moment 8-3 that he won't win it this year. I don't think he will win it this year, but I think he will at some point.

Personally I can’t stand Nadal but I love to watch him. His sheer intensity and shot making ability make him a threat on any surface. Will he win the US Open this year? Probably not. Will he win it in the future? Probably. If you would have asked this question last week I would have said no, but after his first couple of matches at Wimby I have started to think greater of him.

I like Nadal, and I like to watch him. When his racquet makes contact with the ball i have confidence that 90% of the time he will win a point. Unlike Marat who i also follow ....who may get a point, or may not.

I think he's turinng into a great grass player, and is determined to win Wimmbledon. And when this guy puts his mind to it, he does it. If not this year, soon, very soon. And I would like to see the look on Federer's face if he had to face him in the final this year. He must detest Rafa. Come on Rafa, wear a white jacket coming onto the court in your next match ROTFL. (But I know wouldn't ever do that)

are people saying he will win wimbledon because he beat Agassi today? and the only reason people are saying he will win the US open is because he has beaten Federer so often. THere are other dominant hard court players such as Blake, Ginepri, and Hewitt. They have the potential to beat Nadal.

Well, Blake and Ginepri aren't in the mix here. Hewitt still is. But given that none of them can give Fed a battle, and Rafa can, that does bode well for Rafa's future prospects.

??? Even to suggest the possibility is an offense? You might say Nadal is a clay court specialist. Well, JC Ferrero got to the US Open finals, Kuerten won Lisbon (?) on hard court to finish the year at #1. Heck even Coria got decently far in the US Open and Nadal has a better forehand, backhand, and serve.

This poll should have been more specific. If it was this year I voted no, but in his career it would be yes. So it is hard to know which way you want to vote, since the question is not specific.

Why oh why do you even bother polling something that involves Nadal winning anything, even clay? The majority are Fed fans who will obviously say no. C'mon, they even said he'd lose on clay. 43 of the braindead fans picked Agassi to win 3 sets to 1 yesterday. I take those polls with a serious grain of salt. It's almost as if they all say no, it will affect the outcome of the match. Objectivity out the window.

I think Nadal has about a 40% chance to win the U.S Open this year, Fed about 30%, the rest of the field 30% probably. In his career it is more like 95%. So if it this years U.S Open I would vote no just because there isnt one player I have quite over 50% for this year, but career-wise it seems a very likely yes.

I watch Nadal's game and I don't see anything super special about it apart from he's very fast and phsycial. I think people will start to get a good read on him, like they did with Roddick, although I think Nadal is a little better then Roddick was.

He's already got two slams but I don't see him overtaking Federer! I actually see Gasquet and maybe even Berdech excelling on more surfaces then Nadal! They just have not matured like Nadal has!

Nothing special? A little better than Roddick? No one told us this was the TW comedy hour. *lol*

Rafa is making history practically every day, breaking records that have stood for decades. And he just turned 20. He's the only guy on Tour who can beat Federer, and he's done that a lot lately.

He has one of the best forehands on Tour, perhaps second to only Federer's, and also a terrific backhand. He has a serve that is steadily improving.

You already mentioned his movement, which is considered the best on Tour.

He's left-handed, so players don't get many opportunities to get used to the lefty playing style. And that advantage isn't going anywhere.

Oh, and he's the mentally toughest guy on Tour. Which means that even when you are cruising against him, it doesn't matter. He doesn't get discouraged. He's able to put aside the bad stuff that happens in a match and move ahead -- something very few players can do. He's out there until the last point is played, which means you can't relax. You have to keep up on him the whole match, or you are in danger of losing. And it's this trait more than anything that is getting to Federer, IMO.

But other than that, and the fact that he has two slams, and a bunch of other prestigious titles, it's nothing to get excited about. Other players out there are showing the same aptitude and promise. Just, please, remind me of who they are, and of what they have done lately?

It isn't a matter of figuring his game out. That's what makes it so hard. His game is so straightforward and simple that you can't merely figure it out. His game is centered around his extreme athleticism, and his ability to run down every ball, combined with his mental toughness. You can't just "figure out" how to make him stop running everything down and using your angles against you.

IMO, the downfall of Nadal will be either injuries, or the inevitable decline in athleticism. I don't see him carrying on what he's doing for too many more years. However, I see him winning multiple slams before that happens.

I think Blake is the closest anyone has gotten to "figuring out" Nadal. He seems to be able to beat him quite handily. I remember before the Nadal-Blake match at the US Open, Thomas Blake said something along these lines: "I'd only be interested in the match if it were played on a clay court."

I think if anyone is smart enough to figure out Nadal's game, it would be Roger Federer, and Federer has now had 7 meetings to figure Nadal's game out, and still has continued to fail.

People noting there is nothing special to Rafa's game need to look at his one two punch for instance. Even Agassi stated after his loss that you cant just return or hit a ball in the middle of the court to Nadal, because if you do, he takes immediate control of the point and won't let up.....

Technically, yes, but you are assuming that neither Andy nor Rafa will get to No. 1 again.

I think you are right about Andy, but wrong about Rafa.

His numbers last year were better than what Roddick and Hewitt did when they were No. 1. But Rafa has to deal with a dominant Fed, and is doing his best, and is beating him, but unlike when Roddick and Hewitt were No. 1, no one else is beating Fed.

So it is what it is. Rafa can try to beat Fed when he gets a chance, but if no one else can, it makes it tough on ole Rafa. He has to try to do it to improve his ranking.

It's not easy for the World No. 2. But he's not out to making it easy on other players either. ;-)

ahhhh...that poll. Well I also lost the poll that Fed would not win the French for the past two years now. I have been right for the past two years and the majority of TW has been wrong. The reason is because the majority of TW are FED fans.

The same holds true for the Wimby poll. The majority of TW are dishonest Fed fans who vote blindly for Fed and blindly against Nadal. In fact this board found that Nadal is one of the most boring players on the tour. You can say a lot of things about Nadal....but NO WAY is Nadal boring.

Whats even more insane is that Nadal was not even given as an option to choose from in that poll and still he was picked as the most boring player.:

Yep. You're right. I really do hate classless cheaters who whine about not being allowed to cheat.

But never-the-less, I see nothing too exciting about Nadal. Fist-pumping Vamos-ing histrionics do not make a player exciting. Neither does a constant baseline grinding style.

If his obnoxious on-court celebrations make him exciting, then what about the punk Monfils?
