In my humble opinion this is the ideal lenght of shorts:
http://www.estadium.ya.com/daviscup/images/finalphotos/PeteSampras2002.jpg

Though it also depends on the person wearing them. I wouldnt want to see someone with disturbingly fat and/or hairy legs using shorts of that length.

slightly above the knees for tennis since they give an ease to movement and knee bending. other wise its just below the knees for casual wear and other sports for fun

I don't like having my knees exposed but I'm short and I wear crew socks so I can't wear them too long.

I also don't like having the waistband right on my waist. I like the waistband of my shorts below the waistband of my boxers.

I like em barely below my knee. I try to get as much leg in there(I'm 5'6") without showing my knees.

i like the slightly above the knee ones please,,, thank,UUUUU

this reminds me of this coworker i hit with all the time
he would choose the ones shown on the picture

anyway, first time we setup a time to go hit, dude is in his late 60's, shows up with cargo shorts, a little baggy, i tought ok maybe he likes does, so i think nothing of it, because they look normal, alittle above the knee type, no big deal
i start to get my stuff out my bag with him next to me, since there was only 1 bench for that court and we had to share it, no choise,,
anyway i take my racquets out and thats when he drops trouuu, under the cargo shorts he has the small azz shorts like on the picture, white in color and all, but this guy must have bough 1 or maybe even 2 sizes too small, damm things are ridiculous short and tight,,,
well as you can imagine, thats about the time when i start walking to the other side of the court, laughing my azz off internally and trying to distance myself form him as much as possible :-)

funny shorts and all, he is still a very good counter puncher, as are most old timers who still play,,
too bad they dont update their clothing when the times change :-)

Right at the middle of the knee, not above not below. Anything longer or shorter is out for me. I'd rather them be long than short though. Nothing looks as bad as short shorts. Same with shirts. Cant stand short sleeves. Sleeves have to come down to the elbow. Hate those mid bicepe sleeves.

LOL. I actually have a couple pairs as well. I was planning
on playing this wood racquet grasscourt charity tournament so
I decided I'd go retro on the clothes as well. I've been trying
to get into the draw the last couple years but for some
reason they're like super exclusive and only have a limited
number of people they allow into the draw and the regulars
get priority. I e-mailed them way in advance and still
no dice. So now I have a couple pairs of short shorts
gathering dust. If I get brave enough, I'll rock them
at one of the upcoming LA TW meetups. Too bad I can't
grow a decent moustache to go with it.

How long? I do not believe in men wearing short shorts (c'mon, your legs don't need to breathe THAT much), but I think around knee +/- a few inches is fine. But ghetto style is just so...I'll let you fill out blank. As for capris will, whatever floats your boat I guess. People will either judge you as a cross dresser or a Nadal-poser.

Edit: Actually, that second pic of Nadal in Red is pretty darn cool. Doesn't looks as capri-ish as usual.

WildVolley

Above the knee by at least a few inches is best. 9" inseam is fairly standard on most shorts these days. For me, that's at least a couple of inches above me knees. The 7" inseam are alright, but they show more leg. Still, they're far from short-shorts.

I'm with you on this. Soccer shorts usually fit me about 2 inches above the knee. I love soccer shorts, they make the coolest looking shorts but they don't have pockets. I never understood the harm in adding some pockets that could be of use when you are done kicking the ball around and are heading home.

part of what i don't like about tennis clothes today is that everything is so big and baggy and long. even the pros look like they are about to play a game of pick-up basketball, and not tennis. tennis clothes used to be uniquely tennis.

Back in the '70s, we looked good with pure white tennis shirts (Lacoste), Converse or Bata shoes, brand new wooden racquets, but the shorty shorts for men was really bad. The length of the shorts now are much much better, like a normal guy wearing a pair of shorts above the knee

I like soccer short style, or just above the knee
