Greetings everyone,

Does anyone recall what happened during the 1984 Tennis game; I believe it was a championship, but I believe one of the tennis players was arguing or something during a game because someone made a bad call or something. And he yelled ballistically because he was losing the game. I vaguely remember the event, but I was wondering if anyone can recall what exactly happened. In was definitely in 1984 and I'm not sure if it was a championship or just a regular game. But it was one of those indoor arena games. If anyone knows please respond. Thank you!!

Congratulations, you've just confused the hell out of me. Basically you're hoping that someone can read your mind; you want either the name of a player or the name of a tournament in 1984 in which a player argued a call and yelled. If this is a joke, it's not very funny because all you needed to do was say the word "yell" and then ask who would have been most likely to yell during the '84 season. The answer would be John McEnroe, one of the classic badasses of tennis and as for the name of the tournament, well, that would be every tournament he entered.

Tarheels2323, is right. Tactless though, and with all the bedside manner of a suicidal doctor. But,

he's right.

If I may rephrase your post :

In 1984; during what I believe was a championship, in an indoor arena, a tennis player argued and

yelled ballistically about what s/he thought was a bad call. If anyone can recall what happened it

would be appreciated.

Now even with the rephrasing, it cannot be answered. This is do to the fact that there is not

enough information. Perhaps if you were to add some information, someone might be able help you.

I actually prefer tarheels2323, M.D. - euthanasia specialist. Sounds like the beginnings of a cancelled before the pilot aired TV show. Anyway, I've always found that it's not my bedside manner which matters but what I do in the bed beforehand. My guess is still McEnroe, he probably has the record for most on-court blow ups. Oh, and yes; I could definitely be more rude if I tried really, really hard.

Shot in the dark here...

Maybe you're talking about a match between Lendl and McEnroe. It went to a tie break that McEnroe ended up winning 7-0 and the contentious point was a forehand winner McEnroe hit around (as opposed to over) the net. Lendl wasn't happy and had an argument with the umpire (he lost the match and the argument).

Now it could have been a pre 84 incident - hard to remember.

When I was 9 Matt called my shot out I got very angry and argued extensively. That was the championship of neighborhood playground in 1979. I didnt know anyone else was there watching. Perhaps you have your dates confused.

Seriously though, McEnroe was in is prime in 84. Nastase had faded by then, and Tarrango wasnt on the scene so maybe it was JMac.

I think the score was 4-3, but one of the players was insisting that 2 + 2 = 5, hence the outrage.

If you must know, the dispute degenerated into the age old question of whose father would win in a fistfight.

You guys have obviously never read the classic science fiction book '1984' which was about how technology was going to monitor players of tennis matches. The technology predicted that Big Brother would use TV cameras to judge line calls. (Quite a prediction - eh?)

Anyway, the player was yelling because he thought the technology should NOT be used. He thought line calls should be made by humans. He hit several balls that he was SURE were in, but Big Brother was manipulating the technology to show the balls clearly out, forcing him to lose.

That was at the same time many courts were being painted in the new shade of green called Soilent Green (sorry about the spelling of that). Maybe it's Soylent Green. Something like that anyway. It's been a long time.

No that's okay. His parents never taught him manners, so it's not our fault. Thanks anyway tarheels. Next time, I hope you learned something about manners.

PS. I asked for the name of the tournament, and you replied, "well every torunament he's been in." Wow, I should be congratulating you because you confused not only me, but others as well. Maybe you need reading classes so that you can understand what a question is asking, and how to answer it. Geesh! Thanks guys anyway.

are you for real? you honestly thought anyone would be able to answer such a vague question? a lot of players argued a lot of calls in 1984, I have no idea how to answer your question with so little information.

Here's an idea: next time you decide to ask a question do so in a manner which is intelligible to the masses and not just yourself. As for manners, my parents did try, I just didn't listen. However, in that case, my parents got me to understand what manners were but I chose to ignore them. You cannot do so much as to make known what you're after and I took a stab in the dark at answering your poor excuse for a question, yet you decided to attack me for letting you know that you need to be much more clear in your queries. Sir, reading classes would not help the fact that you don't have the requisite knowledge to phrase a simple question in a concise, easily understood manner. I believe you need to reevaluate your presence on this board.

I was definitely thinking of Orwell's novel, too, and was having trouble recalling the tennis that isn't in the book.
