View Full Version : Lucky me, Haas's broken racquet

Lucky for me I was front row and center at Court 1 at Wimbledon during the Haas/Berdych match. Well if you didn't know, Haas broke his racquet during the second set, threw it near the net post and the ball boy proceeded to put the racquet into the trash can. Well, 3 and a half sets later after Haas lost the match I was able to get the attention of the chair umpire and I asked him for the broken racquet out of the trash can and I got it! I'd love to post the pictures I have of it if someone would mind filling me in on how to do it. Thanks!

great find!

if you have them already on your pc, then

you need to upload it somewhere on the internet, this can be done at:

www.photobucket.com - creates a personal account, more control over what happens with the pics.

www.imageshack.com - Just upload the pic, don't know if you can edit and stuff

www.tinypic.com - see above

then paste the URL in between [ img ] url [ /img ] (no spaces) tags and then you're done

max 3 pics per post though.

Hi I was at the same match and from what i remember....Haas, after loosing the game and going back to his chair....put the racquet at an angle in the doubles alley, stood on it (which ofcourse would break any racquet lol) and he GAVE it to the ball boy to dispose of. He didn't throw it near the net post....also, I was watching him pratice that same morning on the same outside court as Federer....he wasn't at all pleased with his strings at that point...and neither was he happy with them during the match!!

Maybe I should've asked for the racquet...i was tempted :D

Zeus! I'm watching that match right now (w/ breaks) from Wimbledon Live. Great match, by the way.

Are you visible in the broadcast? Where were you sitting & what color were you wearing? Maybe another way to legitimize the thread when no picture is available :)

Thread has been cleared of ranting.

In the future, instead of whining, just let the thread die if you don't think anything is coming ;)

wings56 pwnz n00b nonbelievers....j/k lolz <----just kidding on all that gay crap, but yes it was full gut with string dated 6/30 and 31/29 kg tension, and it is definately not an mfil300 there is no emblem on the butt cap and underneath the tourna grip it isnt white and red, the head size is definately too small, and the paint job isnt even very good... let me try to post some more pics...

It sure isn't an M-Fil 300...string pattern doesn't match, but they've done a great PJ on whatever it is....

Hey Wing, thanks for the pictures. Someone once wrote that there was lead tape at the top of the grip on Tommy Haas racquet (under the replacement grip), can you see if that is true?

ummm, well for sure there is no lead u nderneath the tourna grip, but i dont really want to remove the replacement grip to check but i was squeezing near the top and it didnt feel like there was any lead tape but theres really no way to tell

ericsson

why dont you look for lead under the basic grip? i mean the racket is damaged already. it would be interesting howmuch is under there as im sure there is, considered he use a lot at 3 and 9.

Funny because today (wednesday 26) I was at the Countrywide Classic in LA and Haas threw his racquet up in the air and after it broke he threw it in the trashcan and some kid probably 18-20 asked him for it after the match and Haas handed it to him.

So what was the static weight, balance ect? I would like to know, it could tell us a lot.

He puts lead along 3 & 9 right?

It would be very nice, if you could post the weight of the racquet. And see under the grip, how much lead he has there, if he has

Prestige Classless, says that you are a liar and that the racket is indeed a 300gxl, not the 200gxl (minuse the extra half inch)

How much does the racket weigh before lead, some with the racket measured 12.5-12.75oz with out the added lead and up to 14oz with lead.

Dude,
Let it go...Haas' frames do not weigh 14oz's
That is amost laughable :)

have you played with it yet:mrgreen: i have to admit that while reading the post, I was a bit skeptical, but can't deny the pictures...what a great souvenier!! i went to the US Open last year and was just happy to get a collectors cup from the concessions:)

umm, im sorry i dont just have a scale accurate to tenths of an ounce or grams, but i can gaurantee you just by holding the racquet it doesnt weigh any more than 12.5 ounces

Here is an email I just recieved from alfa164164, helping shed more light on the subject

alfa164164- I sold the racket, so I can't give you an exact measurement anymore.
There were no specs listed on the racket's throat or hoop to tell you what the headsize was.
In my estimation, it looked very close to the 200G Hot Melt XL mold, albeit at standard length.
The width of the frame from 3 to 9, was narrow, like Dunlop's 95 sq. in. molds, however the main strings were just a tad longer than Dunlop's Revelation 200G, Muscle Weave 200G 95, 200G Hot Melt, or 200 M-Fil.
Paul Angell, the founder of Vantage tennis, and former R&D guy at Dunlop, told me that Haas' mold, as well as some of the other Dunlop Tour players was more or less based on the mold of the 200G HM XL (obviously the length, weight, string pattern, and even flex was custom). Based on the headsize, beam width, etc. of Haas' frame that I had, that is exactly what it appeared to be.
Haas' racket was also not a paintjob of the Head Pro Tour 270 or 630 or whatever it was called. Obviously he may have continued to use it for a period of time when making the switch from Head to Dunlop, but by the time he was using the 300 M-Fil paintjob, that was definitely NOT a paintjob of an older Head racket.
Haas' racket weighed about 12.7 ounces strung without any lead on the head or under the grip.
Fully leaded (if memory serves me correctly) the racket was somewhere north of 13.5 ounces.
Sorry I can't be of more help mate, but I don't have any of these sticks anymore.
I get'm and use'm for a spell and eventually find a home for them that will appreciate the collector's value more than I will.

That is quite heavy but it doesnt surprise me, Haas is an oldie and back then these weights were rather normal...
