View Full Version : The TT Cup — Country Nominations

The Grand Slam
07-20-2006, 11:41 PM
NOMINATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED.

It's a little idea I've had for a while now. Sixteen countries consisting of five people (ATP and WTA players for that country) will compete with each other, seeing which country is the best. It's sort of like the Davis Cup, but we're voting instead. xD In this thread you'll all vote for four countries you want in the Cup, in preferred order. For example:

1 - France. France gets 7 points.
2 - Russia. Russia gets 5 points.
3 - Australia. Australia gets 3 points.
4 - Argentina. Argentina gets 1 point.

(Just for the record, that isn't my preferred order.)

The sixteen countries with the most points will go on to play in the tournament. In the event of any countries having the same number of points, there'll be a quick sudden death poll. You just need to vote for which country you want in the tournament. After all of the countries have been put in, we'll start the player nominations for each country.

In player nominations, you will only vote for one male player and one female player from that country that you want to play. These can be either singles or doubles players; it just depends on who you like most. The three males and three females with the most points will go on to play for their country. Because there can only be 3 of one gender and 2 of the other to make 5, the person with the least votes out of all of those players will be eliminated.

Then, once all players have been decided, we'll start the tournament. For example, if Croatia and Australia are playing against each other, they'll have one thread (so that it doesn't take up as much space). The matches will be played in sequence, with two matches at the beginning. When one match is decided (first team to win a certain number of points — I'll actually have you suggest to me how many votes a country should have to get up to to win the match), another will start. Five matches in total. I will decide who goes up against each other in each country. You all know how the Davis Cup draw works — team that wins 5, 4 or 3 matches will advance.

I probably haven't explained everything, but I hope you understand. Questions? Comments? Criticism? Feel free.

Start voting for your favourite countries! D: I'll stop the voting soon enough.

My preferred vote:

1 - Australia
2 - USA
3 - Russia
4 - Sweden

So that the standings aren't always at the end of the page, I'll make it easy — the number of votes are here.

CURRENT STANDINGS

Serbia and Montenegro are two seperate countries now (at least as of June 2006) so the vote goes to Serbia rather than Serbia and Montenegro.

I'm aware of this, but we're just going to say all players from Serbia and all players from Montenegro are from Serbia and Montenegro. There aren't that many players from either country if you split them up anyway.

I'm not convinced Cyprus has enough players for 2-3 ATP and 2-3 WTA players. If I'm wrong, please say so, but until then, I'm not counting the Cyprus vote. France will get 3 and Thailand will get 1.

ah i'm sorry i didn't read it was WTA+ATP !

anyway even with only men, i was wondering if i would have a pb with the referee, but thought it would be enough with 2 ATP ranked players from cyprus :

and as goran almost won the düsselford world team cup in 1995 with hirszon as a partner... we never know ! :p

but as girls are involved, i change my vote into :
1 - switzerland
2 - france
3 - thailand
4 - croatia

sorry for inconvenience.

Yeah, I'm sorry. You need five different players. It's tough, but it's the rules. Cyprus would've been a good team, too. Baghdatis is one of my favourites.

Vote reaccepted.

There are three Peruvian males, but only one Peruvian female. Thus, I can't include it. If there was one more female, I would. But I can't.

No. That's not correct.

Wow, I hate it when people don't read through a thread without posting. dbcontrol, Cyprus can't compete. It has two males and zero females — not nearly enough.

does sound like a good idea except for the ending part. I mean isn't this just going to be the old argument of Person A is better then Person B, while someone else argues Person B is better then Person A.

I mean seriously, who isn't going to pick Federer from Switzerland, Nadal from Spain, Safin from Russia, etc.

The Grand Slam
07-23-2006, 12:46 AM
They're good players. That means they'll go far. Obviously people will pick those players.
