It would not make sense to not play canada if he's healthy...none what-so-ever.

Players should never be able to hold tournaments hostage like Rafa is holding Toronto right now. A lot of people are making decisions that are tied with what top dogs are doing, and they should regulate that.

What will you do if they feign injuries then? Either way, outcome is the same.

Maybe he had been disgruntled to play there becuase
the name is Roger's cup.

clever, not very, but enough to draw out a chuckle.
on a more serious note, i donno, im thinkin he'll probably lose a lotta points if he doesnt show up there at all. i mean its a masters event too so i guess either this or cinci, or just both, but nothing else then. i donno depends on him, on his health. he just needs to be fresh for usopen and not wearing spandex again.

Does the ATP still fine top players who bypass Masters events?

Well, it was Rafa's turn last year but Roger's the year before. I have a feeling Roger will get lucky.

I think he is just bargaining for appearance fees

If he is bargaining for appearance fees he should be slapped silly. Either decide you are going to play or dont play, but stop this charade. I agree though there is reason I see to skip event if he is healthy, but it is still his choice.

"A reliable source told The Globe and Mail "...and there is no more reliable source than Tom Tebutt himself, one of the really good tennis writers.

It's enought to make me jump on the train and go to To. to watch the first 4 days..which I think i will do.

& I don't think appearing at a Masters when you have lots of points to defend is a bargaining point.

Great news! Toronto wouldn't be the same without it's defending champion.

That's good news. I'm in Tronto during the tournment but don't if I will be able to attend

He is saving himself for the USO. After reaching W finals, his team has become confident he can win the USO and they are plotting a strategy. The tourney needs him more than he needs those points.

That hair? Those eyes? If he's not going to play Tonto, he'd be better off playing Toronto leading up to the U.S. Open.

I think Nadal will play. He can't wait to beat the crap out of Federer. Vamos Rafa!
