Instructions on how to make a James Blake Racquet . . .

1. Get a Dunlop 200 18x20.
2. Take the bumper guard off and paint it black.
3. Put the Dunlop bumper guard back on.
4. Replace the Dunlop Butt Cap with a Prince Butt Cap.
5. Neatly Paint Jame Blake on one side of the throat.
6. Neatly Paint Prince on the other side of the throat.
7. Put 8 inches of lead tape at each 6 and 9.
8. Take a sharpie; black out Prince on the throat and the P on the Butt Cap.
9. String it with ALU Power at 68 pounds.

Oh by the way . . . He seems to have given those O3 things to his coach.

I have a lot of respect for a guy that's not trying to fool the world.

Wait, I thought we replaced the butt cap. Instructions #4 and #8 contradict one another. Are you saying that Prince takes the Dunlop butt cap off, replaces it with a Prince butt cap and THEN takes a sharpie as some final insult to Dunlop and marks through the "P"? Or, is there some sleight of hand? Does this mean that butt caps are now subject to paint jobs? Those damned manufacturers!

I handled a few in Indy. I say a few, because he only had 1 strung per match.

Yes . . . Replace the Dunlop Butt Cap with a Prince Butt Cap and black out the P.

Oh.....nevermind....

bsandy - how do you like your current set up? Do you have nat gut in the mains and Hurricane in the crosses?

oops . . . I had the setup I used over the winter, on my SIG.

I use the ALU Rough in the Crosses.

and . . .

I'm having trouble finding Team 122. I haven't decided weather to switch to Team 125, go with BDE 122, or KLIP 120, on my singles racquets.

I understand what you're saying, but wouldn't it have been a bit wiser of Blake to sign a deal with a company capable of creating a racquet he could play with. I'm sure Prince isn't exactly thrilled so far, and I'd imagine they're scrambling trying to come up with something he'll use for the USO.

I think Blake is using something closer to a 100 than a 95. the racquet looks bigger than Pure drive on TV.

Put 8 inches of lead tape at each [3] and 9.

I know this is an old topic but I just found it via search function. Is the lead tape 1/2 inch? Also, does the apply any lead tape in the butt?

that is probably the closest that you can get, but blake is not using a m-fil 200.i have some proof if u want to see.

does he use a leather grip or a synthetic grip? if synthetic grip, what is it? I am asking about the replacement grip.

also, would it be a lot different if i mod a m-fil 200 instead of a 200g? cuz i have a pair of m-fil 200 but not 200g

i heard from someone on this board that he dosn't uses leather replacement grip, but i don't remember what sythetic grip he uses. and i also heard that his's racket's strung weight was around 12.5 ounces. don't think it will quite make it by just adding 0.14 ounce(8 inches of 1/2 inch lead).

Prince Cushion Fit Grip?

Wow, ALU @ 68 lbs?! That makes me cringe just thinking about using it with my surgically repaired shoulder.

If its not the mfil, which 200 seriies is blake using? Also, I think theres some weight in the handle/butt, if not, then his racquet would be extremely head heavy.

the tension should be 70lbs or higher...
and if you ask me. i would say the closest racket to blake's blacked out racket is TF335. i know it sounds crasy, but i've compared the specs and the frame shape very carefully and TF335 is what i closest i got. i also heard TF did brought molds from dunlop, so it might be the same mold for james's racket.

does blake put any weigh in the handle?

In the match against Karlovich the Giant, Blake played with a black racket and a Dunlop insignia on the strings. After he lost he left the court with a Nike gear bag and a Dunlop racket bag. Either James is at odds with Prince or he is playing with something out of this world????????????

yes, it is official. happened around rome i think. there was a press release from prince saying that they have respectfully parted ways and thank each other for their wonderful partnership blah blah blah. anyway, he's been back with dunlop now for about 3 weeks i think.

the tf 335 is exactly the same mold as JB's racquets but the layup/composition is different (obviously)

6. Neatly Paint Prince on the other side of the throat.

8. Take a sharpie; black out Prince on the throat

Wait, but what's the point of painting "Prince" there if you are going to black it out? :D

That's awesome.

I love to see some good players stikcing with Dunlop.

Dunlop makes quality frames for a good price and they always have a strong foothold in the players racket catergory.

I was worried with Blake and Mauresmo leaving Dunlop that their little niche in the tennis world would be disrupted.

What a relief and thanks for info.

do u really think he uses a TF?...

tennisfa

no, he dosn't use a TF. But the TF335 mold is the closest, if not the same, racquet mold for James's racket.

James has always usd the same frame, a Tiger frame from the EU

Dunlop rep was by our club about a year ago...
