I was wondering if the Topspin-slice serve is effective for first serves.

Why don't you try it on a match, instead of asking us?
In my experience, yes, it's effective, but can you make it work? That's the question.
My advice: Less Internet, more Court time.

Yes it can be effective for first serves, especially if you can create alot of "action" on the ball. In singles I would use it as a change-up to keep your opponent guessing. More commonly it is used as a 2nd serve.
I see a topspin slice used as a first serve in doubles alot. The extra spin helps keep the ball in court and increases your first serve percentage. Again, I would mix-up your serves and placement so your opponents don't get in the groove.
