I would like to try a poly as my main but I have had tennis elbow in the past. If I use gut in the crosses how much softer does the string bed get 70% softer or like 25% softer.

Most likely 25%,you would be better off with gut main+even then the poly will take away from the great feel of gut.

When I played with Gut main/ Poly cross, I felt like I got the best of both world (cliche I know..), so you should try the gut main first.

Mains = 75% of the feel, and crosses = 25% of the feel in a hybrid job. If you're not a string breaker, try gut mains and poly crosses.

I suggest you try multi as cross if you had a tennis elbow

Go lower.

IMO, gut crosses don't soften the stringbed. In the past I have used that setup because the gut crosses help maintain tension in the stringbed. Polys are notorious for their tension loss.

I would think that gut in the mains would do a better job in that respect.

Polys aren't recommended for anyone who isn't the most chronic of stringbreakers, and not at all for someone with the previous ailment you've had. Do a board search on it for what you're risking when you do.

Multi crosses with Poly are not durable even less than full multi job. I tried X-One Biphase with BB Alu Power and its one of the least durable combination I have ever tried. I would say use a synthetic gut like Gosen OG sheep or Prince Duraflex. Its your first time poly so say your current tension is 60 then use 56 on mains and 60 on crosses.

There are experts like Ripper, Steve_Huff who can guide you better.

if you have arm problems, any racket w/ poly is not a good option. doesnt matter if it's on the mains or crosses, it will still feel stiff. personally, if you're looking to get two hybrids out of one set of gut, i would try using a multi like others have recommended (maybe something along the lines of yonex multis) or go w/ a syntehtic gut..
