I'm looking to see what in your opinions is the best vibration dampener. I really want to stop all the vibrations going up my arm because of m bad shoulder. What do you thinks the best?

i use rubber bands... you can get a bag of about 1000 rubber bands at office max for under $5... compared to buying less then 2 dampeners from a named brand for $5

Dampeners do not stop the vibrations from going to your arm, they only stop the loud pinging sound coming from your strings.

Rubberbands work fine, and are ridiculously cheap.

Have used many different ones over the years. Nowadays, mostly rubber bands. Hole grommets (much cheaper version of the Sampras dampener) from any hardware store work really well also.

For your bad shoulder, consider demoing one of the Pro Kennex frames with Kinetic or Ionic technology. They really work in terms of removing damaging vibrations and shock.

I've used a rubberband which surprisingly does feel pretty good, one of the best I've used. I also use the Pete Sampras signature one, the black "O" from Unique Sports Products. I have heard the Gamma worm works great, but will explode when hit, I guess there is a black or blue liquid inside those.

I use a size 64 rubberband, as far as I know nobody else has told you the size.

I use wilson ntraps because they just dampen the sound, not sacrificing much power (or none at all)...

Shockbuster II's and shockbusters on the otherhand took a lot of power away...

The black pete sampras donut vibrazorb. It is harder than the cherry red one :). Simplistic looking. I like it.

I just got a rubberband at my local library. Tied it and wham-o! Priceless.

I use the original Donnay Vibrazorb from the early 80's, which is like a triple density sponge that you squish between the strings. Having recently tried the hard rubber ones so common now, I don't know what I'm going to do when mine wear out, because they are much better at quelling vibration than any of the products currently on the market IMHO.

If you decide to try and hunt them down, good luck. I have not even seen them on ****.

Pete Sampras O. Volkl DNX Vibrastop. SHockbuster seems to cancel out a lot of the vibrations and give a crisp feel.

All give a nice sound pop.

rubberbands the way to go. It's just that some people I played tennis with, they just came up to me and were like, "Does that(rubberband) actually work?"lol

Rubber bands work well but if you want say a Wilson dampener use a rubber band before you get a real dampener.:)

I use 2 Wilson Shock Traps, nothing fancy. They're 10 cents at my local Sports Authority and when you put them 3 horizontal rows in from the top and bottom, they work great.

absolutely true!

that being said,i like Sampras "O"s but rubberbands are just as good and much cheaper.

the solution to saving your arm is arm-friendly racquet and a loose (vs tensed) arm and relaxed grip.

rubberbands get my vote

Loco4Tennis
08-16-2008, 09:11 AM
as if you haven't seen this enough, ruberband gets my vote also
i weave the rubberband on 6 mains, just like the worm dampeners, i like it better like that, more sound dampening IMO
you can have rubberbands on all 4 sides of the racquet as long as you do not enter the crossed section of the strings, see if that dampens the vibration enough to notise
but also to minimize some more of the shock, try building up your grip size with some more soft overgrips, i just know they would provide more dampening than the original letter, which seems to actually transfer shock for feel, or at least thats what the leather overgrip fans seem to claim

O grommets from the hardware store.
They are in the electrical section.
100% rubber, not cheap plastic like the tennis equipment companies sell.

anyone here have some advice how to put this HEAD-Logo-Dampener-II thing on my racquet but to look normal, the holes are very small so they stretch a strings too much, I ended up enlarging the holes to get fit… ridiculous :)
