State what poly you use, either full or hybrid. How long does it usually last you before it snaps?

full pro hurricane 16 and 17 at around 55-60 lb
last me around a week sometimes less and sometimes more depends on how many times a play a week

I always cut out poly. The only times I've broken them is off-center. I get 2 weeks on syngut and 1 week on multis.

I was watching The Tennis Channel and they have a short segment called "Bag Check" where pros will show you what they have in their bag. This one time they did a spot with James Blake. He took out about a half dozen sets of Lux Alu and commented that they last him about 2 hours. Now that's hitting.

So, he says: "Lasts about 12 weeks". Later, says: "Never Broken it".

This is the problem with questions like this. It's not the same asking "How long does poly last you, before snapping", than to ask "How long does poly last you, before you want to cut it out".

Seems like most people cut their poly before they snap.

I have Luxilon Original in my Pure Storm at the moment... I think it's been slightly over 5 weeks. I play about at least 10 hours a week.

Well, i don't know many people that have actually snapped a poly. I was talking about how long it took before it felt dead.

8 Weeks for me using 55lbs babalot Pro Hurricane Tour, Babalot Pro Hurricane and Luxilon Big Banger Alu. They all had no feel, different sound and just became unplayable. I have since gone with Natural Gut.

You need to also state where breaks acure and what surface you play on most and if more than one what percentage of each

he might not notice it's gone dead. once i left bb alu in my racquet for 6 months before finally cutting it out because I didn't realise how much better new strings could play. now i cut out poly after 20 hours.

Same thing for me. I can feel polys go dead after about 20 hours of play. But those 20 hours were wonderful ....

Amazing.

I broke a set of SPPP 1.18 after 30 minutes.

The next set broke while I was stringing (in a different place).

I'm on my third set right now. Have played about 2 hours on it so far. We'll see how long it lasts.

I string at 52 lb. in a mid-sized racquet, so I'm not straining the upper tension limits.

big banger alu powers last forever. ive had mine for a couple months. cut it out finally, no tension loss at all. strung at 58 in mains and pro hurricanes at 58 in crosses. no string movement at all!!! this was strung in my very old babolat that ive never seen the name and im sure noone else knows either. recently broke the frame because of the stiffness from the polys. Has anyone ever tried the gosen polylon ice? its a very cheap poly and i heard it lasts long. Also, does it go dead fast??

I'll let you know after this week. I normally use SPPP 16g mains w/ a syn gut cross. I've snapped it between 20 to 40 hours. Last two times were mishits at the top of the frame (different holes).

Snapped the syn gut right?

Nope, the mains go 99% of the time for me. Kevlar will break too if you mishit "just right" or play with it long enough. I normally play everything until it breaks ...unless it's fraying badly (multis), too tight, too loose, or playability changes dramatically. Synthetic gut lasts me a few days to a week [3-12hrs], so I don't even bother. Poly is a good compromise b/c it can be strung low for power/comfort (though i prefer tight) ...AND... lasts 4X longer than S/G.

Multi's seem to play 2X longer than S/G. Kevlar will last 2X as long as a poly (8X+ S/G) from my experience, but it is extremely stiff and uncomfortable, especially with the wrong racquet. One of my hitting partners uses it as a hybrid with poly, lol.

I used to use a full poly job of Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power 16L in my Nsix One Tour 90 strung at 55 lbs. I played twice a week with a total of 5 hours per week or 20 hours per month.

It would last me anywhere from:
4-5 weeks before snapping in the sweet spot on always on the mains. I've never snapped it off centre and it usually pops on my groundstrokes.

Now I currently use a hybrid of Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power 16L for the mains and Wilson Stamina Spin 15L for the crosses. I played twice a week with a total of 5 hours per week or 20 hours per month.

I've only snapped this set up once and this time it was on a crosscourt backhand volley and it was the Wilson Stamina Spin that snapped right in the middle. It lasted me 4 weeks.

My friend broke ALU Power in 2 spots right in the center of the stringbed in 4 hours with 2 of those hours being doubles. The strings had grinded into eachother and there were deep notches everywhere even though he had them strung 1lb beyond the maximum recommended range. And the racquet is pretty light too(Head ti.Fire or Heat, forgot). He was getting great spin though, it was nuts.
I had a hit with it, and the thing that surprised me was how comfortable it was. It was soft and not harsh at all. Softer feeling than my SPPP.

How funny, I was just reading those comments here: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=95561

Seems ALU Power isn't very durable ... and somewhat pricey.

Lasted me about the same, 3-4 weeks with string at 59-61 and 2 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. Always the mains and always on a dead center hit.

ALU is one of the most durable strings around, whoever that was that kept breaking strings did his own string job, that should explain quite a bit. Andre Agassi doesn't even break ALU in an hour and he is known to break Kevlar strings. Plenty of people who've switched to ALU because they are string breakers.

For me poly lasts a long time, especially the Babolat Pro Hurricanes. I have had them on for about 5 months and they are still going strong, barely any movement. Probably due to the fact that I do not put alot of spin on my balls, I am more of a flat hitter.

It's completely variable with me, as I normally snap it off-centre. Big swinging serve returns, they're death to poly (I prefer the softer polys) if you grab one near the top of the hoop (for me, anyways).

For now, it's sent me back to multis...

1-2 weeks with the BB Original, since it's 16g. I broke my hurricanes every 5 playing days.

I usually use Cyberflash 17g. It lasts about 20 hours before breaking. I have only sheared it near a grommet once and I got to the end of my first reel of the stuff just today. I do tend to hit quite a few of my serves near the top of the hoop and that has sheared many a string.

I remember breaking Lux Ace 18 in about 12 hours right in the center two mains broken. I liked it except for the durability. I broke several other polys on mishits so I don't count those.
