Beginning to reach the limits of the 85 SQ. IN.

Currently using a cayman tnt-90. it's 85sq.in. headsize even though it's called the tnt90 and it has a sticker label on the throat saying it's 90" headsize. o_O

I started hitting with this random guy i met at the courts. I'm 5'4"ish and he's like 6'7"+ and pretty big guy. So of course his hits are pretty darn strong. But even though i'm a small guy I still manage to generate a lot of power using my entire body. But i've been noticing that even with the leaded 85, it's very stressful to hit all those big returns. whenever my racquet hits his ball it's like BANG BANG BANG!! very scary~

When I switch to my ncode 90, it's much easier to fight back his power. It's strange even though my 85" racquet is heavier than the ncode! (12.8oz vs. 12.3oz) I have lead tape at 3 and 9oclock rite now.. Should I add more lead tape at 12 oclock? Right now it's about 8pts head light.. adding to the 12 position will probably bring it closer to Even Balance. But i'm also worried that my arm can't handle the extra weight.

Cayman TNT-90 (12.8oz 8pt. HL) :: Technifibre Biphase @ 52lb Mains + Luxilon Rough 50lb Crosses

Here's an idea....

Try dropping your tension on the mains to 48#. If you can get used to that tension, then drop it down to 46# next time AND drop your crosses down to 48. There's PLENTY of power in the 85" racquet.

byakuya,
Excuse my asking but how did you get an even balance with the ncode 90 at 12.3 oz.? mine was stock at 12.6 and i leaded 3 and 9 to make it 12.8 but the balance only went to about 6-8 points, (perfect IMHO).
Just wondering.
Thanks

My stock ncode was the stock 11.3oz Asian model =]

So firstly my stock balance is different from yours. here's a list of things i changed.

1. Replace leather grip with two overgrips.
2. Add 6 grams of lead near the center of the handle
3. Add 6 grams of lead between the throat and the handle (where the grip ends)
4. Add 3 grams each to 3 and 9o'clock positions.

The Asian ncode90 is stock 320 grams unstrung. So a total of about 18 grams added now not including the weight of the strings. With string comes to 12.8oz.

It's mainly the leather grip that's probably throwing your balance off.

byakuya kuchiki,
you could try to change the string on your ps85 to a more powerfull string, poly is known to be less power.

Kuchiki Taichou-sama,

I agree with the other posters. If you dont think you can handle the extra weight, try stringing it lower with a more powerful string.
Also, I just wanted to say that it's pretty awesome that you can generate good power when using a frame like that, even against a giant. I´m 5'5-6" and I´m not sure I could do that just yet. :)

i recently strung my PS 85 with OSGM 17 at 50 and it's too powerful. gotta move it back up to 53 or so. just wanted to see how low and now i know. the syn guts work fine for the smaller heads. :)

He might have been a whole lot bigger and had decent forehands. But i was whipping my arm, while pushing off my right foot and then bringing my left arm back to get a full transfer of power. I was basically using 100% body momentum versus arm strength to intercept all his shots. That's why I could hear my racquet screaming each time.

There's no shame in getting a larger racquet. I've done it, and I feel shameless.

It was a whole lot easier using the ncode90 against him..sadly =[

I'll try both methods. I'll test out more lead on 12oclock and then see about going down to 50/48lbs tension next string job.

I have used TF X1 biphase 18g with SPPP 17L cross at 46/48, and it felt ALMOST as good as VS17/SPPP hybrid at the same tension. There is so much pop and cupping from the stringbed, it was ridiculous!!
