Cytomax

Is Cytomax a good substitute for Gatorade? Our local Big Lots has a quart of Cytomax for 75 cents/bottle. Does it have a short shelf life?

I prefer Cytomax over Gatorade. And Cytomax is better than Gatorade, so you should be asking us instead "Is Gatorade a good substitute for Cytomax?" Of course, my answer to that would be "no".

I'm just a bit biased.

Can see Cytomax has only 6 grams of sugar per serving so where does all the carbs come from?

I think Cytomax is terrific..it's the only one I've tried where I actually notice a difference both in on court endurance and recovery afterwards..a friend of mine is a ATP/WTA trainer and he tells me lots of pros drink this stuff..he is also formerly a professsional cyclist and he sez lots of those people drink Cytomax as well..just be careful to use it according to instructions and know that the Maltodextrins may upset some folks stomachs. their pre performence drink also comes in handy for me at times when you need some quick fuel just before playing. Thats a good price...if paying reg price, it is most economical to buy the powder

Thanks, never actually saw a bottle before except at a high-end cycle shop.
Someone posted Andre Agassi used the stuff. Too bad he did not endorse the drink, may be more mainstream.
There have been amazing matches at the US Open this year, and the weekend is looking great for some high-quality tennis. Before we move on though, Upabreak would like to solve a true mystery: what were all those concoctions that Andre Agassi drank on the changeovers? The sharp viewers among you have surely noticed that Agassi usually brought three different liquids on to the court: water, a yellow, transparent beverage, and an opaque, pink liquid that looked like watery Pepto-Bismal. We've done extensive research on this and here's our best guess: the pink stuff is CytoSport Cytomax Sport Energy Drink, Pink Lemonade flavor. This stuff is kind of a souped-up Gatorade containing electrolytes to replace what you lose, complex carbs to give your muscles something good to burn, and something called L-PolyLactate that decreases lactic acid buildup. In short, it's suppose to make you go longer and recover faster. When you mix it up, it's opaque and it gives off gas when shook up like Agassi's bottle. As for the yellow bottle, our guess is Lemonade-flavored Accelerade, which is unique in that it contains 1 part protein to 4 parts carbohydrates which is also suppose to aid in muscle recover. We're not sure about all these claims, but we do believe in careful hydration, and obviously so did Agassi and his team. If you want to last on the court as long as Double A, find yourself a favorite sports drink and use it.

Cytomax is great for giving you a boost, but it seems to push me over the top and make me feel hyper...not consistent with relaxed focus. Maybe the guarana combined with some other ingredient provides a caffeine boost.

I usually take some with me, though, if it's likely to be a long hot day. I can understand why cyclists like it so much.

not all of the formulations contain guarana..i think the flavours have differing compositions..you may want to check into that

I would definitely stay away from any kind of "stimulant" for tennis, that is seriously bad news for the right mindset for matchplay. If it doesn't have stimulants, then I am sure it is as good a rehydrator as Gatorade and if you can get it as cheap or cheaper and you prefer the taste--> go for it!

Tried a couple cups of coffee per set in a tourney final, third set was a disaster. Glazed Krispy Kremes weren't rocket fuel either. Caffeine and sugar were not kind that day.

actually lots of pros benefit performencewise from having some caffeine..in fact, i bet a few still sip on a coke along with the water..think Henman does. the Cytomax is several levels above Gatorade, and some of the mixes have guarana and stuff and other dont

Well, I don't doubt there are Pros sipping Cokes. Lets face it, most Pro tennis players never went to college or even formal high school.

As to Cytomax being "above" Gatorade. In what respect are you refering? Gatorade is for rehydration, period. I am unaware of any verifiable information that Cytomax is any better at it. If it has other claims, those should be weighed on their own merits (if any).

I like cytomax sports drinks. A little better than gatorade. Anyone tried cytomax twitch when you work out in the gym?

im not sure but the nutrients you get from a bottled one might be different from a powdered mix one - can someone check it out?

i use the powder as i also do road biking and it helps a lot better than just taking gatorade. but cycling is pretty much endurace when you bike 2-3 hours .
if you are playing a set or two - gatorade might just be ok but multiple games a day - definitely cytomax or amino vital . they have recovery drinks too.

Cytomax does not sit well with me. And it's not about the taste. I don't know if this happens to any of you other guys, or it's just a rare thing w/ me. I think it has something to do w/ the maltodextrin that is Cytomax's main ingredient. But when I try to use Cytomax during or after a workout, it makes me very nauseous. I've tried it on a few different occasions in various strengths, but every time to varying degrees it has the same effect. I've tried the pre-mixed bottles at a bike shop and they had less of an effect, but I still couldn't finish the bottle. So yes, they do come in 20 oz bottles I believe. Just throwing that out there if you plan on dropping a lot of cash on a big can of powder and have never tried it.

There are better drinks out there...SciVation Xtend...Controlled Labs Purple Wraath...Look for a carb+bcaa/eaa drink mix.

Have both the 1/2 and 1 liter bottles, never tried the powder.

Xtend > Purple Wraath

But buying bulk supplies is clearly cheaper. Also, these are meant more towards weightlifting than tennis. All one needs in tennis is something to inhibit cortisol, and any carb helps with that, as well as vitamin C.

Also, Xtend & PW are much more expensive than Cytomax. Tennis players already spend enough on racquets and strings, so they may not want to invest as heavily in the supplements. I still believe that Emergen-C is the greatest sports drink, and I can just have my protein afterwards so that my muscles can get the rest of the nutrients they need.

Supplementing with Beta-alanine would also benefit these tennis players as it would help improve endurance and increase time to exhaustion. Too bad I don't know how much beta-alanine Purple Wraath has. But it's just cheaper to buy BA in bulk anyways.
