Hey, does anyone remember the USTA Lifetime Membership option? I think it used to be in the $300 or $400 range... I don't see that option any longer on the USTA web site. Have they stopped offering this?
I thought it was like $160. $300 seems a little high
I just (today) got an email about renewing my membership. I looked around and found the lifetime membership : $750 ... ouch. it would take like 18 years to make that worth it.
What a "lifetime" membership tries to do is get enough money so that the interest will cover the cost for the Life of the membership. I paid an amount that may have turned out to be a money loser for the USTA, if the return on the $200 from 20 years ago just didn't keep up with the inflation rate of the membership. The usual long term rate of return quoted is 7% for the S & P 500 (1925 to 1995) adjusted for inflation of course.
I became a USTA Life Member in 1970 for $100, tax deductible (went to junior tennis). What a deal! Whata country!
Edit: went, not wents!
The lifetime option is no longer offered. People are living too long these days. The USTA was losing money on these folks.
Do you think you got your $200 worthPaid $200 20 yrs ago, seemed like a good deal.
i vaguely remember 400 ~20y ago.... figured i'd break even in 16y... but that's a naive way to calc...Hey, does anyone remember the USTA Lifetime Membership option? $653 according to this calculator... https://www.saving.org/inflation/inflation.php?amount=100Not saying it wasn't a good or bad deal, but $100 in 1970 is a lot more in today's dollars. According to the CPI index, it's about $520...

I don't know man. You could have used that $200 to buy the equivalent of $700 worth of blow and hookers I'm told.Yes, easily
Yeah, that's definitely not worth it. When I was growing up, it was around $300 or so I think... but that was when a year's membership was $25. I don't really play leagues, but for tournaments you need the membership too. Hardly a year goes by when I'm not entered in at least one of those. But $750's too steep for me as well...
