I'd open a company building racquets. Probably, I'd start custom-built, with a few headsize moulds and free range of specs, then move on to production models after I'd gotten a niche in the market.
How does this relate to the OP? Well, it's a veiled way of saying that equipment is more important to me than skill. If I had to choose between playing 3.0 leagues my whole life, and making racquets, or playing with relative success on the Futures and Challenger circuits, but never customize a racquet again, then I'd choose the first option without a doubt.

If you think about it, he did answer the question. He simply reinterpreted it. 35,000 dollars for tennis is really 'an extra 35,000 dollars,' which he would use to better himself in a way other than tennis.
Learn how to serve & volley. Minor tweak on the ground game. Travel around the world and enjoy 1st row seating at all 4 slams plus masters! Rub elbows with the mighty Fed. Say hi to Agassi at his fund raiser event. Stalk Anna K. Build a house with both indoor and outdoor court with a few rows of bleachers and full size bar and stadium lights. Dude, I need $3,500,000 for all that!

considering my tennis career is over after my highschool season... I would probably spend about 1k on equipments... 5k on playing tennis from now to march, so basically 5 privates a week and matches, group lessons, etc etc... then probably bolliteries or saddlebrook for winterbreak... mmm... its sounding good right now, too bad its not gonna happen.

But "buddy", if I had 35k why would it be only for tennis? It's not a different currency you know.....and I wouldn't spend it on tennis because the chances of going pro are less than wasting that 35k on being a burned out tennis player...I can read, that's why I'm not stupid enough to waste that much on tennis.

I have $35,000 to spend on tennis. It's a trust fund from my grandma. See, my passion is tennis. My whole life I have been studying and studying. I have six hours of homework a night and I am only in high school. I will admit that it has done some good. It has developed my brain. But when I first starting playing tennis 4 years ago, I fell in love with the sport. I was so amazed by the way the pros hit with such power and consistency. I loved the beauty of their form and strokes. Its almost like a dance. Well anyways, I guess tennis is the thing I get the most enjoyment out of in life. I am an educated individual. I am in IB (http://www.ibo.org). I am still going to college to get a four year degree in sports medicine or sports administration. Then I hope to move on to become the coach of a college tennis team. See, you have to learn to enjoy tennis even if you are not going to be pro. How many things in life do you enjoy as much as tennis? It is worth the money if you have it and if you already have your college finances lined up. So, the question still stands, if you had $35,000 to better your tennis skills, where would you go and who would you train with?

Yeah same here. I don't even really want to play tennis my whole life. My plan is to quit playing tennis after high school (if I don't make college tennis team) or after college (if I do make the team). I don't want to play tennis unless it's competetively. If you're not beating people it's a waste of time. Of course I'd still condition and stay in shape through working out, biking, running, etc.

i like the stealing Safin's bag idea. but seriously, i would invest it in either the business idea or just...invest it in the stock market.
but that's boring. so i would go to your favorite tennis event, try to pay your way to meet your favorite pro, and ask that pro what to do with however much money you have left. dont forget to come back and tell us what the pro's advice is.

I am also in IB!!! It's a very good program. The community hours are at times a pain but it's ok. I guess you also have community hours to do, how do you find them?
I do volunteer work at the hospital plus Clubs at school count as creativity hours. I get activity hours from tennis actually. IB is a pain but I know it is good for me. I have to take the HL World Lit oral in two weeks. Man that is going to be annoying. What grade are you in and how do you feel about the program?
So, you have $35,000 period. Not $35,000 to spend on Tennis.
It would be stupid to blow it on Tennis, especially as it looks like your Tennis potential/aspirations don't include a pro career. I don't need to know anything about Tennis to give this advice.
And what would you spend it on? A car or some other material possession that fades in appeal after a week or two. At least with tennis you have a skill. Tennis is something you can really enjoy time and time again. The material possession you cannot. And think about it. I am going to college anyways and it is paid for. I do not want to be rich when I grow up because I have seen what money does to people. I just want to enjoy life. I dont need a fancy car or house to enjoy life. In fact, within a week, maybe a month, depending on who you are, you wont even notice what you have bought. Within a year,the purchase will probably have no appeal. However, buying yourself a talent, that is something you can enjoy for many years to come. You might think I am some dumb liberal. However, I am actually a libertarian. I just do not want that much money when I grow because I am also a Catholic. And when you "store up your riches" you are being greedy and disobeying the laws of God. I want to learn tennis so I can enjoy life and then use my talent to make a difference when I get older by mentoring kids (I am not naive, I would not waste my time with a lazy kid. If he didnt play at least 3 hours a day with somebody else, I would tell him goodbye. This kid would probably be poor because most of the rich kids I have seen are spoiled brats who take lessons every week and don't practice so it is like throwing money down the drain.) on my time off. Wow....what a lot useless information to you guys. Point is, spending the money on tennis IMO is worth it. Its my opinion, I dont care whether you like it or not. No hard feelings.

Education if it is not paid for.
Save it in a bank account, invest it in something safe.
Buy a property, rent it out.

i agree with gugafan05. tennis is great. $35000 may seem like a stretch, but if you spend it wisely, it's worth every penny. yes there are other better ways to spend it, but this is a tennis forum is it not. we are here for the sport, for the love of the sport. whats wrong with spending on something you love. you all are just too old,etc. let the kid dream and achieve.

In line with that, I was at Cincinatti this year. Safin threw a racquet the length of the court and hit the door that gave entrance to the practice court he was on. A kid was standing on the other side of the door and looking through it (chain link fence) and when the racquet collided with the door, he fell over!
It was hilarious.
I would move to a tennis academy, full time. Seriously...just pack up and leave. Forget friends, I'll make new ones!

ok you seem very consistent indeed , i would buy a 12 pack bag filled with my favourite racquets plus numerous tennis wear and strings(natural gut ofcourse) and overgrips(why would i , i would get another racquet) and fulfill my dream : go train in the bollitieri tennis camp ..
P.S :dude plz if you have this kind of money you really need to think hard before doing anything ..

I think the question previously posed to you is very relevant when it comes to spending/investing grandma's hard earned. How good are you ????? Think and be honest...how long do you think it will take to transform you to the standard you are seeking ? Perhaps it will never happen......perhaps you'll need a further $35000. Are you prepared to take that risk ?
Big name academies use subcontract coaches also. Don't think you're going to have the name over your shoulder every stroke, it just won't happen. Reading your other posts you describe yourseld as a 3.5 with a good forehand and precious little else. In response to this I would suggest you look for technical coaching for all your strokes. Good coaches will charge top dollar but it will help you more than hitting thousands of balls without purpose. Once you have good technical muscle memory you can move onto hiting more balls.
I'm not trying to give you a lecture but.....what do your parents think about your plans ? If you're mature about the issue you'll discuss it with your parents. What did grandma establish the trust for in the first place ? If you're morally sincere like you hint, you'll spend it the way she intended it to be spent. What I'm saying is: you're in high school and life has a habit of changing outlooks. By the way; don't judge a person by their bank account, that's steroetyping.

Me, i would get a nice court built, then get a ball machine, maybe get some decent lessons and also i would like to travel to spain and play for a while on the clay over there.

Victorian Certificate of Education. IB is for the real smart ones. Both programs give you your final ENTER Score (99.95-less than 30 depending on the % of Victorians you beat LOL) but IB is a lot harder because of the workload, no tests that really count, it all depends on the final exam and so on. So yeah, the IB "nerds" usually get higher ENTER's just because of the effort they put in.
