they don't prohibit black sole shoes, they just prohibit black MARKING sole shoes

In my personal experience Ronnie is correct. At a Local Club was that their sign said no black soled shoes. However when I mentioned that the pair I had with me had non marking soles I was allowed to play with no issues whatsoever.
ok, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of black non-marking soles. I just see signs for "Black-soled shoes prohibited" and thought that meant what it said. I guess that doesn't include the non-marking kind.

I have black and orange soles and have never had a problem with them.

The problem is not with the colour of them per sa but the material they're made of. Running shoes have black soles because the sole/tread is made of carbon rubber and its the carbon which marks. The carbon is used to prolong the life of the sole. Tennis shoes, basketball shoes and indoor rqt sport shoes which may have black sole don't not contain carbon and are therefore non-marking.
Some facilites try to stop people wearing black soled shoes because the people who work there cant tell the difference between a tennis shoe with a black sole & a running shoe so its easier justto so no to anyone wearing footwear with a black sole.
