You really wish that half assed slams are played. Gotta catch Fed. #1 priority. ;)
Off course I wish slams are played, with or without audience, with or without ball kids... anyhow tournaments and authorities find safe... I want tennis to be played... Catching Fed is bonus if happens, but tennis starting is on top of my wishes...
On the other hand you are in every thread wishing tennis not to be played, as you are happy not to be played...and we all know why...

Dang, I hope Tiafoe pulls thru unscathed from the disease... The Atlanta exo is nothing like the Adria event. It looked like they were taking lots of safety measures to minimize the chances of spread. Players look like they’re being cautious too. No handshakes or hugs or apparent hanging out at clubs. No pickup basketball or soccer games. But when Tiafoe said he felt dizzy and not himself, my first thought was: “oh man I hope he doesn’t have the ‘Rona.” I’m surprised they allowed him to continue to play after that medical timeout.

LOL...yeah that will work. A recent poll showed over 41% of people WON'T take a vaccine for COVID. Heck look at the amount of people that don't even get a flu shot.
Unfortunately true, but at least you're mostly protected if you are vaccinated, so while a vaccine may not end the virus completely, it can let those who take it resume life as normal while those who don't have to continue taking all the precautions.

There is talk about three current variants. The newest one is less virulent but spreads easier. If there are really three variants (Asian,European, and now a “southern or Spanish”) then there will be no good vaccine.

The only way to truly prevent it is to die. Which isn’t very good.

And I see in close proximity 100-130 people a week for the entire epidemic.

Though I will tell you handwashing and mask wearing and keeping as much distance as you can seems to work. Of the 5 hospitals I work at, I only know of one physician who has acquired cv19. And he got it bringing his daughter back from classes in Europe in March.

Our hospitals stopped weekly screening of physicians after 4 weeks because the positive test rate was so low. ESP without symptoms.

*cough* countries should invest in more socialistic practices that can actually work rather than depending on the economic stability of capitalism *cough*
Move to Venezuela then, dude. You're beyond help, but I assume you're about 14 so you don't know any better. As Margaret Thatcher so famously said, "the problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend." For your edification:

Good lord the stupidity. And they haven’t even cancelled the event!! It’s still being held. I wonder if Querrey is now isolating since he played Tiafoe.

Honestly, this has just exposed how stupid some players are. Isner is looking like a dumb ****er now with his coronabros comment.

.
"I haven't felt the best the last couple days..." - Tiafoe.

So he doesn't have the decency to self-quarantine and have another test? Instead, he decides to play anyway and no one at the tournament stops him? It's going to be hard to stop this virus when people are this selfish and stupid.

We do not know what specific symptoms he experienced.
Every player will experience fatigue under those near 100 degree on court temperatures.

Experiencing general fatigue is not a reason to withdraw and quarantine.

Furthermore, what many may not realize is that the nasal swabs have a 40% false negative result.

IF this test has that high of a false negative (40%), the test is practically useless in a tournament.
Arguably, tournaments should not be held until there are reliable tests available.

This could be a blessing in disguise. He could have a deathbed epiphany and add some lead tape upping that swing weight; I sure hope he doesn’t die from the flu

Thanks for the edit mate. I’m not reading that article. You do so much to disprove me like it actually matters, it’s an online forum discussing a relatively unpopular sport in the US lol.

Wall Street operates on other people's money and that money tree is called the Fed.

Opelka has pulled out, replaced by 29 year old Challenger/Futures tour player who of course was routed by Isner. Minor knee injury claimed, hopefully that's all it is, but Dimitrov and Tiafoe were initially claimed to be struggling only because of excessive sun or excessive heat.

Thank god he's an athlete so will come out of it without any damage.
Recover fast, Francis. You're one of the friendliest guys on tour

It doesn’t work like that. The disease is new and there is still a lot unknown about it including whether there are lingering effects. We just don’t know.

Recommend avoiding Covid-19, including pro athletes.

Dmitrov was hugging his oppponent despite feeling unwell before the match.

Tiafoe was distancing on the court, as required per tournament rules. So how and where did Tiafoe get infected? Was he visiting crowded Atlanta bars or engaging in other risky behavior?

Let's hope that Tiafoe fully cooperates with the investigation.

Couldn't be a bigger fan of John Isner as a player, but I'm really disappointed in the way he has played politics with this issue online.

It has come back to bite him pretty badly in this case. You can only hope that the caution about how to approach "the new normal" is something he is reckoning with more seriously now, rather than mocking online.

I hope Tiafoe recovers soon. Like @Tshooter mentioned, there is still so much we don't know about how this virus affects even high level athletes, who can still have congenital issues and additional risk factors just like the rest of us, and are reliant on their bodies retaining an insanely high performance threshold.

It's called a pandemic for a reason. Once someone is infected, it's a question of tracing his or her contacts, and not wondering about how and where they got infected.

Time is of the essence and it must be established when and where he got infected so that his earliest contacts can be alerted ASAP.

Players are presumably shuttled back and forth from hotels to the court and are essentially supposed to be living in a bubble.

This is not supposed to happen if players are strictly following the rules for this tournament.

Unfortunately that's not the solution, neither would it work really.
0 new cases in my state for more than a week since lockdown / state border closure. Lockdown does work.

Rules are not a guarantee of anything, but prudence is indeed required.

Your default assumption that risky behaviour is to blame is what I questiom.

The fact is that opening up the economy does by itself create risk, as does a tennis tournament.

Did Bill Gates warn Fed and Nad about the real seriousness of this covid-19 during the South Africa charity match? I mean they haven't played any exho since the tour was shutdown, have they?

Actually, yes he did. I can't remember exactly what he said (and I'm too lazy to go look it up) but he said something to Rafa about something coming out of China which was going to create huge problems.

One of these players is eventually going to get a more serious case of Covid-19 and see their careers finished, because of permanent lung damage or whatever.

It's going to be horrible for whomever that happens to.
Federer fans praying it happens to Nadal and Djokovic! :-D :-D

I just look at the numbers. I've given up drawing conclusions.

FL hit 59 deaths in one day on May 4th.

If you go here:

You can't see it because FL only shows the last month.

In fact this shows a high of 83, but FL is putting those deaths on the right day, and this site is not. The totals are the same. The graphs are similar.

The worst 7 day total was around 350, and we are not back up there yet, but we are heading in that direction. As of today we are back over 300. And that is insanely horrible.

I did not predict an increase in mortality from the number of cases until it happened.

Well, here it is.

The US has failed miserably, and I don't know why anyone from other parts of the world would risk coming here.

If the government is going to pay us to stay home im all for it. I personally need my job. America is too top heavy to care about fixing what needs to be fixed to get though this the right way.
That wasn't what you were arguing but and tennis definitely doesn't need to be on. Majority of us Aussies (i'm in Queensland too) are working from home, of course many don't have that luxury and they worked during lockdown and we still kicked this thing in the butt. Only essential services and such were open.

At some point, it really is just maths. You guys have a huge population, even 1 or 2% death rate over a short period of time is enough to cause paralysis to your medical system, even for those arguing that the number is no worst than flu. That is the real concern, once your medical system is under pressure.

FL - 179 deaths per million, with no end in sight.

Granted, we are not San Marino. We are unlikely to hit 1,278. On the other hand, they now look good.

Everyone talked about how badly Sweden managed Covid, but check their deaths. They made some huge mistakes, especially protecting their old, but FL can only dream of being where they are now. And they never locked down.

You can't tell Americans, as a whole, to be reasonable. They are too stupid. If they are not forced to take precautions, they will flaunt every common sense measure, and we see the result in my state. Every hope we had of a careful reopening is now destroyed.

Remember when Trump said this wouldn't hit anywhere near 100,000 deaths? Ah those were the times.

I guess it should not be surprising when 45 and his state news organization gives false information every day. That's not political. it's just what is happening. Isner should be smarter. But that's the side he's chosen to back.

Australia, 4 deaths per million. If these numbers are accurate, everyone else should be asking you how you did it. But I'm going to assume that if you are in a country where people can only enter by boat or by flying, you can stop people from coming to your country. Then make anyone who visits who is not tested and negative go into quarantine. Maybe you people listen to sound advice.

The US has done everything possible wrong, and it all started years ago with electing Trump, who still thinks this thing is just going to go a way by magic.
