As far as I understand, besan is ground chickpeas. The other one is bhuna version (fried split chickpeas)

Correct - we buy the lentils as it is and then we grind it. Infact all the coconut chutneys are made from its powder and not besan. Besan in the south is used mostly for making chaklis (murukku)
