Bublik accidentally hit a ball girl.

The Kazakh turned a tough situation into the nicest moment of the match after hitting his 17th ace on match point in his 6-2, 7-6(5) first-round victory against Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Hamburg European Open. The 23-year-old rushed to the other side of the court to check on the ballgirl. Upon learning she was not seriously hurt, Bublik spoke to her for a moment and offered a match ball and a fist bump as a token of gratitude for her efforts.

Still crazy when you think. 135mph Vs 25 mph. 56 y/o Vs 12 y/o. And still the reaction of the both victims totally opposite to every natural law known to the human species.. Crazy
Totally! And Djokovic wasn’t even aiming at the woman. He wanted to hit the wall behind her. He should not have been disqualified for an aiming error. It was an honest mistake.

If he was wearing a BLM mask like Osaka this would have never happened. Or maybe some rooftop pasta commercial next time around.

The Establishment - Djokovic 1:0 after the USO. Watch Vajda tests positive on Covid just before the RG QF.

Poor Nole, going after the establishment was never a good idea.:(

still crazy when one might think that your post isn't trolling
in-play situation vs between games situation
ball girl that is supposed to catch the ball vs lineswoman that is supposed to rest between points / games

isn't it crazy that you are not banned yet for the amount of silly posts?

i disagree - the Djoker incident was unnecessary, in the sense of he didn't have to slam the ball because he was p!ss off.... (ie. out of anger and not part of the spirit of the game), whereas this one was out of the necessity, as part of the tennis play/game (play to win in a normal fashion/spirit of the game).

Ah what a sweet gesture compared to that guy who said “she doesn’t have to go to hospital for this”....

Honestly I think this is the most important detail of the whole thing.

Djokovic did wrong, **** happens.
But instead of owning up to it, in the heat of the moment he tried to downplay it and dismiss it,
which is what ultimately cost him the match(and potentially the title). I can't seem to shake the notion that if he had showed more
remorse and worry for the line judge, play would have continued.

Also kudos to Bublik for his reaction.
We may all know what the right thing to do is, but sometimes we can get lost in the moment
and act in a less than desirable way.

I read today sth like hundreds comments from Novak fans asking why Bublik was not disqualified and that atp is not fair.
Which only convinced me more in faith that these are not even tennis fans :)
There's like 1 or 2 such replies to this tweet. Where exactly did you read hundreds?

I guess you missed the sarcasm in my post :)

It’s a bit puzzling how some fans still try to defend Djokovic and try to see similarities with Bublik’s accident. It doesn’t matter if Djokovic did it in anger or just casually, it is punishable by DQ. These are the rules, period.

No way. The rule is the rule. He was going to be DQ'd no matter what he did after he nailed the lineswomen.

It happens all the time but only in case of Djokovic it gets blown out of proportion and he gets handed harshest punishment. Otherwise ignored. Also overreaction from Granny and Djokovic' apologetic attitude made it worse. If you hit someone accidentally with Tennis ball - you say sorry and move on. But Djoko behaved as if he had shot someone. So much guilt and desire to play good boy role LOL. I'm sure Federer wouldn't have shown 1% of guilt if same thing happened to him

There are plenty of good Djokovic fans for sure, but some of them acquitted themselves very poorly after the incident in US Open, and will probably still be discussing the matter as a conspiracy theory for years.

In relation to this incident in Hamburg, what a brave kid. There's already a lot to think about as a ballkid in normal circumstances, but in the current climate they are also masking up and having to remember social distancing alongside their normal court duties. In addition to that, in this case, this youngster has withstood the initial shock of being hit with a big serve and coped with it in a very stoic and tough way. A saving grace is that we no longer have the ballkids enduring the responsibility of handling disgusting player match towels.

:-D it happened during play so it is totally other situation. Djokovic did it during break.

I hate come across as a grump, but the way the ATP paint players out to be heroes for just doing normal things like this is just ugh. Enough.
