What do the old Pro's do today???

The OLD pro's are doing celebrity pro/am's, attending tennis fantasy camps, acting as figure-heads as directors at posh resorts, etc. They didn't make the kind of money that today's pro's make. Today's pro's will retire to a life of leasure, as long as they handled their money wisely.

Borg has his own fashion company and basically lives off the profits. I believe he lives in Stockholm and basically enjoys himself. He appears to enjoy a quiet lifestyle. I don't know if he's into any creative endeavours - eg. writing.
Muster, I think, is spending most of his time guzzling beer. Actually he has a family, I believe his own company and he coached at the Davis Cup recently.

not totally sure of the numbers, but i think players in the very late 70's and early-mid 80's made big money... hopefully invested wisely (big IF)... but johnny mac i think has a 4 story apartment overlooking central park. i'm thinking that's got to be $20 million, absolute minimum.
AND ivan lendl had an absolutely amazing house in greenwich, CN way way before the hedge fund boom.... so again, i'm thinking $20M absolute minimum.

Petr Korda plays golf with Ivan Lendl every week in Florida. They have a regular four man game every week. He's also been playing some senior events this year.
Todd Martin coaches Mardy Fish or shares the coaching during the year.
Incidentally Fish is out of the French Open for injuring his foot while kicking a soccer ball.

See this thread for a link to an article about Borg with some pictures (and text, in Swedish

The guys he played wasn't exactly former Pro's - and he won 6-0, 6-0 but he was happy anyway

Laver doesn't do much but attend some events and play at some selected pro-am kind of stuff.
Newk has a coaching place in Texas.
Vilas shows up for some Tennis Channel programs.
Katrina Adams is a constant for TTC commentary.
Pam Shriver also commentates.
Cliff Drysdale commentates and coaches.
Billie Jean is active in WTT and USTA, and has her own businesses.
Connors coaches Roddick and sells his DVDs.
Courier runs his senior tour.
But the really old pros have moved on to the great court in the sky.

Good points Geezer. The old kings of the courts also wrote tennis books which almost none of the current top players care to do. Too much $$$ hurts the motivation. The old pro's are also some of the best teachers and coaches like Tony Roche & Jimmy Connors. Jack Kramer and Pancho Segura are still around but Tilden, Budge, Vines and Gonzales are playing dubs on the turf in tennis heaven

Chris Evert and IMG bought the Bassett-Seguso Tennis Academy in Boca Raton from Carling Bassett and her husband Robert Seguso in 1996. It is called the Evert Tennis Academy.

What's Edberg doing? I know he's married with 2 kids who have to be anywhere from 11-14 by now, so he's probably busy being a parent, but he must do something else, right?
I think a lot of these guys just live kind of a non-specific life. They (and by "they" I mean the ones who were ranked high and made a lot of money) don't go into a second full-time career (although some do), but rather do a combination of TV stuff, tennis appearances such as exhibitions, speaking engagements, family, and probably dabbling in business and investing with a business partner. Also, they do all the stuff we would expect retired rich guys to do: travel, golf, hang out at nice places, etc.

From what I understand, Edberg is living quietly in Sweden and playing the stockmarket, and is involved in a racketlon (sic) league for fun. It sounds as though he's retired quietly without much of a public presence these days (notwithstanding the odd oldies match).
