what gave it away?
When I was saw Maria in her first Wimbledon, I was infatuated. Thought she was hot and she could play etc.
Now I just see her as a shrieking machine with a game that lacks variety and finesse.

I respect her. For her combativeness and the great rags to riches story. And overlook the 'atrocities' that Dad is alleged to have committed. And realize that the 'shriek' is not her - it's the courtside mics.
Having said that, she needs to learn to mix up pace, volley, and get a better 2nd serve...

I support players who I admire for technical ability, or who I fancy. Roger Federer and Sharapova are two players I support, you can have a guess at why I support each.

I know she's unpopular (to put it mildly) on these boards, but I can't help it--I like Sharapova. I remember sitting down with my roommates to watch "Serena beat this little blonde russian girl to a pulp" in the 2004 Wimbledon final, and I've been hooked ever since she proved us wrong.
True enough, she lacks subtlety in her game, but she realizes it--and I respect her for working on adding more dimensions, like slice volleys, topspin lobs, etc. I noticed in her first two matches at the USO that she was using a backhand slice (the commentators even remarked at it) for once, as well as a few (awkward) attempts at serve and volley. I admire that she's trying to expand her horizons and improve her results, even if it hasn't come together yet and she still relies mainly on hammering the ball.
Also, esp. after Serena embarrassed herself in the press room after her loss to Henin, you have to hand it to Sharapova--despite coming off as robotic and inhuman most of the time, at least after her loss in the 3rd round she gave credit to her opponent, didn't make or accept excuses for a day of bad tennis, and in generally took losing gracefully. I just wish some of her fans would take her loss(es) as gracefully as she does.
That said, they need to turn the court mikes off when she's playing. I noticed her screams didn't seem as loud during her night matches--different sound mix?

Well, she has been living the States since her childhood ans speaks English fluently....so what? Maria has always claimed that she feels Russian....btw I don't think Maria roots for America since her 'beating the americans on their on soil' fed cup comment. Furthermore she isn't interested in aquciring the US citizenship.
Comment: It's very impressive that Masha hasn't forgotten her roots, and as you know Maria donates a lot of money in purpose to help children and families who were affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe.

.man.. i have talked to many people old, young.. man, woman, caucasian, asian.. and etc.. I have yet find one person who likes her.. Everyone seems want to see her lose as early as possible.. Even her own people (Rusian) don't like her.. That Canon Ad is annoying. I would never buy another Canon

She is certainly not a lost cause. Once she gets her serve straigented out and learns to volley better I think she will start winning tournaments again. I would like to know what credentials her father and these other parents have to coach. Wouldn't it be better to have a coach who was a professional? The one coach that really makes me laugh is Serena's mom. I think the only court she has been on is a food court.

There are just some things that I can't stand about her:
- Her screaming
- Her arrogance
- Her courtmanners (always looking so angry to try and impress her opponent, walking to the back of the court slowing play etc. etc.)
- The way she gives press-conferences (very arrogant)
- Her presenting herself as if she is really beautiful while she actually isn't very pretty.
Basically, every time she plays I hope she loses.
I only watch her games when she is playing a strong oponent, because her game isn't very entertaining. When she is playing a weak opponent I don't watch, but that goes for all women's matches.
Don't get me wrong I think she is good at what she does, hitting the balls very hard. But that's all she can do.

well I can't change your attitudes towards Maria. But there are two pionts that I definitely can't stand. 1) Maria's press conferences are always funny and natural and she doesn't behave arrogant at all. 2) Masha is for sure the prettiest girl ever, therefore why shouldn't she present her beauty?

Long story short:
1) Maria isn't ugly at all (laughing)....she is absolutely gorgeous...6'2'' blonde athletic Russian Princess
2) her attidudes on court are examplary
3) if your are the best, why souldn't you show it?
4)then you won't see a lot of her matches in the future
