According to spanish newspaper "Marca", Nadal will not play in Thailand as doctors have told him he needs a few more weeks to recover from his knee injury.

At last a sound decission, Rafa! I hope he will be in shape for the Madrid Masters in Octubre.

That sucks for Thai. oh well. but pumped up andy Roddick will be there at least. Rafa should just skip the Madrid masters as well and just play the year ending Masters finals. and he will be ready to win the australian open.;)

If it's a few weeks he'll likely not play Tokyo or Stockholm either and we'll see him back at the Madrid Masters.

Nadal winning a Grand Slam on hard courts, ROTFL!!! You are funny man. ;)

How much promotion money do you think Nadal forfeited?

1 or 2 million?

I think he should have just lost first round and bought his mom another house.

Can anybody post this article where Gilbert says Nadal will dominate 2008? I'd love to have a laugh reading it. Remember there can only be 1 number 1, and it is not Nadal. Btw the Madrid masters starts in 3 weeks or so, so it's likely Nadal will have to pull out of that one too.

Brad Gilbert should get over his man crush on Nadal, and remember he coaches another player trying to reach the top as well. Nadal has not hired him yet, and no matter how much he jerks off at the thought of Nadal, it isnt about to happen anytime soon.

The other thing is that nobody takes him seriously either, and also people start hating Nadal because he's getting hyped up all the time.

I have semis tix but the field is so good it will still be a great semis matchup IMO. Was at the qualies this weekend and players ranked 3-400 rock with their talent. Great viewing so many players until they closed up the practice courts.
Ivo Karlovic lookes like an invicible presence out there. It is a wonder he ever loses.

Does anyone know how bad his knees are banged up? Maybe require surgery in future?

aka "jumper's knee" which basketball pllayers get. Constant weight pounding on thee knee from landing on it. Safin had it and missed almost a year of tennis. He chose no surgery (which could make it worse. You probably noticed quite a few guys with that rubber band thing under their knee at USO. Hardcourts are hard on the knees, clay and grass easier.

So he could be out potentially for a long time?

Rebound????

Gents,

Let's not forget that the Rebound Ace surface that Brad was talking about at the AO is now gone. It has been replaced by an acrylic surface very similar to the USO surface, with a little more sand. This was done to diminish the court from holding the heat and causing leg injuries, and to support the Aussie players. All of which spells bad news for Rafa.

BTW, during the USO I stated that Rafa would require 8 to 12 weeks of rest to heal from his knee issues (got the info from a doctor friend of mine). Looks like his doctors have told him the same thing.

8 to 12 weeks is nearly all the way up to Shanghai is it not?

Aussie players? LOL.

Also, you can fine tune acrylic to play as fast or as slow as desired. Madrid is acrylic, and it is very slow. As long as it plays near the medium range, Nadal will have a fine chance of winning the event.

Yes, but I do not think that Rafa will take all of that time off. He really should, but don't think he will; 4 to 6 weeks most is my prediction.

TennezSport

Well he'll probably have to kiss his knees and career goodbye in that case.

Nadal has as good a shot of ever winning a Grand Slam on hard courts as Barry Bonds does of winning a humantarian award.

If his injuries hold up then, of course his chances are little to none. But if he bounces back like he has the past two years (it gets harder every year I think), he is still a contender for Slams on all surfaces. People said two years ago he would never reach the later stages of Wimby, and earlier year this that there was no way he would get back to the final. He did. And pushed Fed in a tight five-setter (don't tell me the score of the fifth set, tell how a mixture of good serving on Fed's part and choking on Nadal's saved Fed several break points). Moral of the story: Don't ever let count Rafa out.

He has never been past the quarters of a Grand Slam on hard courts healthy or not. Djokovic is his new nemisis on hard courts, to add to the array he already has which includes Berdych, Youzhny, Gonzalez, Blake. He is, never was, and never will be a contender for Slam titles on hard courts.

Yeah he has surprised on Wimbledon's green clay, big deal. The last couple years show the difference when he plays a Grand Slam on hard courts rather then the green clay of the All England Club.

^^ He is going to need a larger frame.
Yeah smaller frames are much too demanding for an injured and aging player like Nadal.

But seriously he really needs to be smarter with his schedule from now on. Playing that much this year didn't really help him in the rankings so he'll have to find some other way to catch Federer.

Nadal doesn't need to play Beijing or Thailand, his shot at number one went out the window when he lost in the US Open. I am pretty dead sure he'll play Madrid and Shanghai and that's it for 2007. Madrid is obviously his home event and there are sponsorship and TV ratings to fulfill. Madrid starts on Oct.15th so Nadal will have rested for over a month since his loss at the Open in the beginning of September. I don't need to tell you all why he'll play Shanghai do I?

Hmm, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on Berdych, Youzhny or Gonzo based on this years results in Grand Slams. That Aussie from Gonzo was a fluke and he will never repeat it. As for Djokovic and Blake they can hurt Nadal on hard. But Berdych is too flaky and Gonzo has done absolutely nothing since January. Youzhny seems to have come back to earth from his high in 2006. As for Nadal never being a contender on hardcourt that's just premature and wishful thinking on your part. The guy has beaten Fed twice on hard, Joker as well and demolished Roddick this year on hard too. He's got 2 Masters on hard and that to me is grounds for calling the guy a contender. Someone who is not a contender is someone like a Robredo on hard.

Demolished Roddick on hard courts, huh? Get the guy a trophy!

I think next year will be Federer's year for the FO, he was so close this year, and had those two games where he had about 6 break points both gone his way he would be RG champion not Nadal. Nadal hit 14 first serves of the 17 break points and saved 16 of them, Federer knows he won't be able to repeat that next year. With all these injuries Nadal may find himself struggeling next year anyway, plus he has never lost at RG and there is a first time for everything.

Nadal has simply not improved on hardcourt since 2005. If anything he's become worse on it. His injuries don't help either. He's won only 2 titles on hardcourt since Madrid 2005 and can't get past the quarterfinal stage at USO and AO. Things don't look great for him (on hardcourt that is, clay and grass is a different story).

Shoot, if the guy who said Nadal will never be a contender on hardcourt can still destroy Roddick on his best surface and then beat Joker in the final in straight sets that to me looks convincing enough for me. Beating Roddick on hardcourt is still an achievement today. His losses on hardcourt this year have been to good players, Fed, Nadal Joker, Murray. Pretty much anyone who´s beaten him on hardcourt in 2007 has gotten a trophy.

Of course that would include Gonzalez who won the AO, oh wait he was runner up, Robredo who won the USO, oh no he only made the semis, Berdych who went out in the semis at Madrid, the guy who beat him in Cincinnati. We'll see how well he does when next year his ranking drops like a stone and he has to face these guys in the first round of Hard court tournies.

Looks like the Trolls are out early today.

Acceptable for people to point out Nadal's trouble against Blake and Berdych?

But it's 'trolling' for people to point out Fed's trouble with Volandri or Canas?

No sir.

How about calling Nadal a 'one trick pony?' Classic trolling?

Nadal is a one trick pony, if 18 of your 23 ATP titles are on one surface then you are a one trick pony, period.

Well you just`picked up the double standard in here. It´s ok to rip and downplay Nadal´s achievements but if you take a cut into Fed only then is it considered trolling.
