ATW: fixed clamps with glide bars....

I wanna string my PS85s and k90s ATW, but I've got an Alpha Pioneer III with fixed clamps and glide bars. I don't have a starting clamp.

I'm hoping someone out there could help with some detailed instructions on how to string ATW without being easily able to have mains and crosses clamped at the same time (hence the glide bars).

I'm just having a little difficulty visualizing it......Thanks.

Using 'my' old-style ATW, you would string all mains minus the last one on each side, string all crosses except the top one, finish one side mains, then top cross, then last main. This requires swapping from main to cross clamping position, then back to main to finish...cumbersome but doable. BTW, I tie off the short side main at the top before starting the crosses...thus, the tie off is of the second main in rather than the last...not my favorite but doable.

Why would you even want to do this? Just for a bottom to top or top to bottom on the crosses? Just 2 piece the job.

There are a lot of other benefits to a one-piece (ATW) job. Less string on the outside of the frame, fewer knots to tie, no starting knot and it makes the last couple of crosses a lot easier to navigate if you're not woring around two knots. I think it's a preference thing most of all though, so it some people like it and others don't.

I've been stringing 50-50. It's not the best for the frames.....even though my Alpha Pioneer III's got a six point mounting system.

Since I don't have a starting clamp, I don't start my crosses at the head.
