Serra's out with 2 herniated discs. GSP is taking his place against Hughes and they'll fight for an interim belt. Serra's not being stripped, but Dana said that if he's out for a long time from his injury, he's gonna be stripped. I wanted to see that matchup because I'd love to see Hughes get beaten by Serra, but I'll settle for GSP beating Hughes' ass again.

Dang. I was looking forward to Serra and Hughes fighting for so many reasons, especially after TUF built up their rivalry so well.

They genuinely hate each other, but Serra said he'll be rooting for Hughes to beat GSP only because he wants to fight Hughes. I really don't think Hughes is gonna beat GSP as it looked like GSP had his number the last time they fought.

^ Who knows. Look how Liddell turned things around against Couture. This past year has been so unpredictable that just to be devil's advocate I want to say that Hughes will come out with a game plan. Look how terrible GSP looked against Serra.

You know, I should like Hughes because we have similar backgrounds. Freestyle wrestling and later learned submissions. The truth is, I can't stand him. Serra is a BJJ guy which is not my fighting style, but I'd pay to see Serra beat Hughes. Maybe it's Hughes' hatred of the Gracies (Rickson Gracie is my favorite fighter) which causes me to hate the former freestyle wrestler. Maybe it's his big mouth, but whatever it is, I root for him to lose.

GSP is going to clown Hughes, IMO. GSP is still really embarrassed that he lost to Serra, and will be looking to reassert himself. Plus, he has to prove that beating Hughes was not a fluke. I can guarantee you one thing: Hughes probably crapped when he saw that GSP was stepping in for Serra.

Only thing I think that's wrong is that this is for an 'interim' title. To me, that's a pretty big slap in the face to Serra.

I don't like Hughes either. He's a dork and a bully. Bad combo.

Above poster makes a good point about GSP having something major to prove. Maybe this fight isn't as bad as ho-hum as I thought.

Dana White said that Serra's not being stripped. Serra will be stripped if he can't defend for a long time so the interim belt just means that if Serra can't defend within a reasonable time frame, that interim champion becomes the actual welterweight champion.

Yeah, I know why they're doing it, but I can't remember the last time they did this. IMO, it's b/c Serra is a new champion. His first major defense comes along, and all of the sudden he gets 'hurt'. Now, this is my opinion of how Dana probably sees it, as I like the hell out of Serra. He's a genuinely good guy. Have yet to hear somebody besides egomaniacal Hughes downgrade Serra. Big Ben desscribes Hughes the best: 'He's a f'ing D**K!!' That's coming from somebody who trained with Matt @ Miletich for years. Pretty powerful words.

Iceman vs AxeMurderer should be entertaining too.

I'll be rooting for my old buddy chuck, but he hasn't exactly been on fire lately, and i think he's going down again.

I don't like Hughes either and i'm picking and rooting for GSP.

Only a month to go!!

I also think Chuck will lose, then he needs to retire. In the beginning, I liked Hughes (before we all got to know what a noob he is, thanks to TUF); seemed like a hard-working farm boy made good. Not even close. Serra seems like a good dude and is obviously a fantastic teacher. I kind of hope Hughes wins so Serra will have a crack at him. GSP is a superior athlete and technician but just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct. As for the other matches, I'm looking forward to Lyoto Machida's fight. Most fans think his fights are boring but it's nice to see an unorthodox, southpaw karate guy in the UFC. Dude has beaten Rich Franklin, BJ Penn and Bonnar in the past. Machida's opponent Sokoudjou is also a bad man. Should be one of the better cards in a long time.

Penn is fighting for interim belt, and Arlovski became champ this way, too.

Well, I understand why Penn is fighting for interim belt, as it looks probable that the belt might get vacated when Sherk's suspension gets handed down. Didn't know that about Arlovski.

I think Silva will take Chuck, but this fight doesn't have near the star appeal it once had after Chuck lost his last 2. Silva will come in with a vengeance, and there will be some nasty, nasty exchanges.

Can't wait to see Sokoudjou fight. We'll get to see (unless he gets another flash KO again) if he's really got the stuff.
