Can someone please give a PT630/PC600 comparison as far as power, feel, comfort ,manouverability etc?

I've been using PC600 for 15 years and am addicted to how this frame feels. I've demoed alot of the newer frames and nothing compares. I love the way the frame feels for volleys, backhand slices and returning 1st serves in particular- I play mainly 4.5-5 doubles.

It would be perfect if the PT630 was a PC600 only more forgiving due larger headsize but surely this can't be so?

The PT630 is the closest you are going to get to a PC600 that is slightly more forgiving. With proper stringing it can be even closer. The PC600 plays well with a vast majority of strings and tension but with the PT630 you need to experiment a little with different setups. I managed to "shape" a PT630 to hit like a PC60 at least on serve by manipulating the string tension, elongating the shape of the head by stringing mains at around 40 and cross at around 70.

As for high level doubles, neither of these two frames are optimal. There are other frames that volley better than the PT630 while the PC600 tends to frame some shots.

I have a friend who's on the tour. He's not ranked high and plays challengers. He got his MG Prestige PJs so his older "Radical" pj frames landed in my hands. :)

A slightly off-topic question.
Does the 630 refer exactly to head size in sq cm? Or is it just a model number ?

Actually my backup rack is a Head Ventoris 660. 660 cm converted is 102 sqi. But when I put the face against my 95" main racket, the heads seem to be the same size.

I have searched the net a lot but am coming up with nothing.

The 630 in Pro Tour 630 refers to head size. HEAD claims the Pro Tour 630 is 630 cm2. Just like 600 in Prestige Classic 600 again refers to head size. HEAD also claims the Prestige Classic 600 is 600 cm2.

this looks like an iprestige MP Mold ( dare I say PT630 mold) I can tell by the wells, the radical are more rounded, the CAP is for sure an iprestige, is there any silicon in butcap? does the butcap have a drilled hole? is that lead covering 6 crosses at 3/9, all ALU rough is an arm killer cut the strings out immediately

Ok, I'm in........just paid for a PT 280 (made in austria) in 8.5/10 condition... small chip at 12oclock -_-

I can't wait to get it! I wonder if it will be even better feeling than my classic tour. I was really loving hitting that nice popping noise when I hit the sweet spot today. Definitely a confidence booster

My prediction is that...I'll be able to serve better with it than the larger 660 size classic tour... and I'll have even better plow through than my classic tour.

If my prediction is right... i might have to buy 1 more -_-

OK, but the question is if the newer batch was still made with twaron? Anyone know?

i'd like to know this myself. also the Classic Tour remake that TW sold out of a few months ago. the head classic tour 660 remake

luckily, my PT280 that's gonna ship to me tomorrow is made in Austria :D

I know that there has been alot written about this in other threads but i really dont have the energy to search for it, so heres my question. I own a couple of twin tube zebras, are the zebras very much like the pro tour? It would seem that way to judge by the stats, about the same stiffnes and similar frame. But ive never played a pro tour so i really dont know. And which players on the tour are using the pro tour today?

i'd be interested in finding out about this too. both have twaron in them -_-

Be interested to see how you fare with such a low power frame. For me (around a 4.0), though the control element was amazing and you've got that unique lush feeling, despite putting in the hours and application, TBH it was too demanding for me... and the no. 1 area where this was most quickly apparent was in the serve dept. Good luck though.

I have 3 old Head Pro Tour 630 made in Austria, but i destroyed 1 of them by trying to do a paintjob... It turned out ok, but the HEAD writing didn´t turned out as i hoped for. If you look from a distance it looks ok, but close up i am not satisfied.

It turned ot this way. The pic is a couple of years old and i have only used the racket a couple of times as i havn´t played in a couple of years...

That actually looks way better than the original blue paintjob. I like the black a lot! And the white "HEAD" letter stands out quite nicely!

this is my shinny glossy black PT630 ( I have three that I painted that way) One I play regularly with, it lost its shine and it is peeling from where I mount it on the stringing machine

Well, i definitely can't serve as well with my classic tour mp (660) remake. It's either the too dense string pattern or the weight. first serves aren't bad, but it's the topspin serve that suffers significantly.

will someone answer the question: do the remakes (designed in austria) PC660 and PT280/630's have twaron in them? D:

mr. chaho, :) no graphics on your PT630? common, paint a pic of something on it.

also, had your "blacked out" pt630 just become more soft, flexible, and magical? lol

Doesn't the added paint change the play characteristics of the frame?

I was thinking about that before i painted it, so i sanded the factory paint and clearcoat down so the racket was "nacked" without going as deep so i would touch the fibres, then i painted it over the base.

I mean, unless you are a pro player you hardly notice any difference if the overall weigt change 1 or 2 gram.

Interesting. Did you use common sand-paper to reomove the factory paint or some other method? If paper, what grit size? Thanks.

I don't know if this was brought up, but I know that nowadays many tour players use this racquet under paint jobs, but during the days when the Pro Tour 630 wasn't hiding under a different skin, besides Muster, did any other players use this racquet to success? I mean, when I think of the Pro Tour 630, I think of Muster. But when I think of, let's say, the Pro Staff, there are numerous names. Not to say that the greatness of the Pro Tour is diminished by the lack of players, but I'm just curious. Anyone know? And why has it come to age in terms of use nowadays? Any comments?

Gustavo Kuerten used the Pro Tour 630 to win his first French Open. There are definitely pictures of him using that racket with the original blue paint job.

Guga is the other HUGE name associated with the PT. Nowadays the Head sponsored pros are using a "paint job" of the PT630. Which is basically the same exact shape/mold as the original frame but in terms of their weight, balance, stiffness...it all depends on the pro. And in most cases the frames are made much lighter than the specs that were made available to the public. These light PT paintjob frames can then be customized with lead tape to the exact specs desired by the pro. That's why the CAP grommets have been so helpful for Head's pj cause, because the lead can be hidden under it.

So in summation todays pros are using the PT630 mold--but not the trusty blue 630/280 version we are celebrating in this thread.

And to answer your question/comment about "lack of players" using the frame. I would say that the PT630 is probably one of the most used frames on tour. Its just ussually hidden under prestige or radical cosmetics.

how about the 660? prestige classic... any known pros using this racquet? sorry for the off topic. I am getting my PT280 this week :D

so all you PT280 fanatics... My PT280 should arrive any day now. I am gonna give it one go. What should I do with the strings? I don't really want to be swayed by this racquet, since after long demoing i've settled on the PST...but I'll give it one day's chance to. Right now wouldn't be the best time financially to keep this racquet just to have... so please tell me what strings/tensions you most highly recommend. of course michael chaho's advice would be greatly appreciated here

First i used 200 grit to remove the clear-coat and to smooth out the chips etc. Then i sprayed a very thin layer of "body" (used on cars before the paint goes on) then used 800 grit to make everything smooth. Then the key to get a good surface is to spray extremely thin layers of paint. Don´t rush and paint everything in one spraysession. Just give it a thin layer that´s hardly noticable every time to avoid drips etc.

Don't shave the pallets (handle) down!!! The PT280 has interchangeable pallets.

Unfortunately your local pro shop probably will not have Head pallets. There is a place in Vancouver that will sell them to you but I can't post the name because they are competitor of TW.

OK OK I am getting dozens of emails about my avatar and they all want it sent to them:oops:, how about we all have the same avatar:), we have to decide on which one though:confused:

Hyogen, you are in, a bit late but you are in,

is everyone else down? to have the same avatar.... I guess I am, but I don't want to be the only other one :p

I'll go into further detail a little later, but I really really liked, almost LOVED the PT280.. hit for about 3 hours of doubles today and one singles set.

unified avatar anyone?

by the way what do you think of this guys? e b a y item #: 260223281206

a LM paintjob. they sorta allude that it's a PT280....or PT280 based frame...

have you guys ever coveted one of these?

must have been customized for a pro...wonder what the specs are....although it may be stock PT280 with all that lead that's visible in the hoop

I've had LM PJ PTs before. In stock form, they're really light as they're meant to be customized. I've had a couple that were customized by Bosworth and those were very solid (12.8oz strung, L3 Prince grip shape + Bosworth leather, all ALU).

However I still dig my PT630s and won't part with them.

I tried on a leather grip on my made in austria PT280 yesterday. My serves seemed to be a little bit better..

just leave me be onyx :) you just sold off a large number of frames which you went through that lead you eventually to the PT didn't you? ;)

There's a big difference between trying/playing with a lot of rackets and thinking differences in equipment results in improved play. (ie. Adding a leather grip and improved serves.)

I'm curious why you continue to use leather grips and poly if you have arm issues?

hyogen

Hall of Fame
it's just one leather grip that i'm switching from racquet to racquet to test slightly more head light setups.

I haven't strung with poly for a couple weeks now.. and I strung the PT280 with full NXT. Poly isn't much of an issue with me in a more flexible frame. I don't think it would be a problem with my PT

Pretty much sums it up.
