Palm angle at ball contact

Hi,

I have search around here without finding any answer to this question, which is: What is the recommended angle of the palm at the time of ball contact?

I hit with Eastern forehand with some topspin. When I look at my own hand in the mirror as I swing, my palm is not perpendicular to the path of the incoming ball (vertical). I would think that a vertical palm would give more consistency. But I don't really know, which is the reason for my post.

Since I use a semi western, my palm faces the sky.

Your palm is not independent of other things. Your palm position is based on being in the correct Eastern forehand grip, but also the squareness of your racquet face on the ball. I dont have a racquet in front of me to find out.

The palm will face slighly upward on the eastern as well. A perpendicular with the floor palm would be a continental.

Rickson, I think the palm perpendicular to the floor would indicate a full eastern backhand grip, no? (think of the grip you'd use on a motorcycle's handlebars).

Bungalo Bill, didn't you pros (when teaching "old school") tell your students to place their palms--with fingers extended/not a fist--flush against the string bed and then have them slide their hand down onto the handle, while keeping the same hand "angle" intact?
