Rankings points for Fed,Nadal and Djokovic after Rome

The rankings before Rome were:
Federer: 6775
Nadal: 5930
Djokovic: 4750

Last year, Nadal won Rome (500 pts), Federer lost in 3rd round (75 pts), and Djokovic lost in the quarters (125 pts)

At the end of the week, Federer and Nadal's totals will be:
Federer: 6775 - 75 + 125 = 6825
Nadal: 5930 - 500 + 5 = 5435
Djokovic:
if Novak loses in the semis: 4750 - 125 + 175 = 4800
loses in the finals: 4750 - 125 + 350 = 4975
if he wins the whole thing: 4750 - 125 + 500 = 5125

its really tight :s i hope either fed or nadal can step it up. i dont like djokovic, and wouldnt like to see him as #1

Even though Roger has had a bad year by his standards, he has put some distance between him and Nadal following the Australian Open. If I remember correctly, his lead was under 1,000 points in February-March but now it's back up around 1400.

As predicted, Federer is slipping this year. Nadal may have physical difficulties, I guess. Djokovic seems to have the best chance to move up. Davydenko, Ferrer et al are pretty much out of contention for the top 3.

How is Federer slipping when he just improved his showing at Rome over last year's (3rd) round defeat?

Just the general feeling that I have on his performace so far this year. Players are beating him who are not expected to do so. 30 year old Stepanek? Give me a break.

By the way, I think Berdych will be out of the top 10 on Monday replaced by Gonzalez.

Gonzalez will be losing finalist points from Rome, so expect him to drop a lot. It's Wawrinka who'll be in the top ten.

This was essentially the last tournament (other than Paris towards the end of the year) where Federer can gain a significant amount of points. From here on, Federer has to defend finals or better at every single tournament other than the Paris masters in order to maintain his #1 ranking.

Federer's like a Grand Slam and more ahead of Nadal. I think he'll be safe unless he messes up big time in hamburg and at the french.

Based on what? He can win both Hamburg and Roland Garros and then do significantly better on hardcourts.

He is not likely to win Hamburg. His feet were cut up like a hamburger patty in his loss to Ferrero. I wouldnt be surprised if he even skips Hamburg and if he does play he loses early. Winning the French, yes that could happen. He is more likely to lose before the final of Wimbledon this year though, there may be varied opinions on that, but that is what most would believe. So yes in 2 of those 3 events he is more likely to lose points then to gain them.

Could he do better on hard courts? Sure but dont bet on it either. He isnt the best hard court player.

It's unlikely that Federer will win Hamburg, so he'll lose points. And let's face it, a final appearance at Roland Garros would be surprising considering his current form.

I agree with that although he has an easy draw to the Hamburg final so anything could happen. I dont think Nadal will win Hamburg as I said, so it wouldnt surprise me with his easy draw if Federer wins it. How he performs at the French might depend on if he does well in Hamburg and regains enough confidence, along with his draw again.

I think Djokovic will be #1 soon though. I see Nadal dropping points as I said the next little bit, and Federer dropping points in the future this year too.

Are Nadal's blisters really that bad? Players play with blisters all the time and he's had some rest to heal them. I think people are overestimating this injury.

Djokovic is definitely in #1 form, no question. He's got the first slam, a Masters title, and another potential Masters on the way.

I'm a bit impatient with Federer. He's basically handing the reigns over to Djokovic. He's not playing anywhere near peak form, and I assume it's nothing but a confidence issue.

Storm, You must not have seen any images of Nadal's blisters.

They zoomed in on his foot while he was getting treatment in Masters series TV.

His foot looked almost ragged. He had at least a 2 inch length opening/gash on the ball of his foorbelow his big toe, along with smaller openings.

The raw red flesh was visible underneath.

As you said, many players play with blisters, but the combination of the size and location of Nadal's blister were the breaking point for him.

Nadal said in his presser that he could not launch himself into any type of movment as the blister was on the ball of his foot. The images I saw confirm that.

I suspect it is going to take some time for the blisters to heal, which puts into question Nadal at Hamburg.

We will see what happens...but Djokovic has a great chance becoming number 2 in the world this year, unless Nadal has a great showing on the hard courts this summer.

Like what Chauvalito said, Nadal might not even play at Hamburg, let alone winning it.

Winning Roland Garros still very much depends on whether he can recover in time.

Don't forget, he still has runner-up points to defend at Wimbledon. He really has an uphill task to defend his WR#2.

Yeah right now it looks like Djokovic will overtake number one from Roger but do not count Federer out yet.His wins over an inform Djokovic and Nalbandian in Monte Carlo give me hope(he played some amazing tennis in those matches nobody can deny that)and he may recover his confidence in Hamburg which is the tournament that has always been good for him as he beat some great claycourters there(Kuerten,Nadal,Coria twice). It was bad last year as well when he lost to Volandri(the match in which he played a LOT worse then against Stepanek) and then went on to win Hamburg and reach the FO final. There is atleast one positive to take out from his loss to Stepanek is that if he won Rome he would have to withdraw from Hamburg as it would have been impossible and he would have lost 500 points, this way atleast he had some rest for Hamburg. It was a hard year for Federer no doubt and some of his losses this year were terrible but I still have hope in him that he can bounce back and retain his number one position although if he is to do that he better start playing some great tennis as Djokovic is becoming a great player and is charging for the number one place.

That's rich. Nadal loses his first clay match since last spring and now he's not likely to win Hamburg?

This is the guy who's been dominating on the surface in spite of taping various parts of his body since 2006.

He will play Hamburg. He has to. He has points to defend. He's not an idiot.

Also, the last time I checked Nadal did not get decapitated. He has blisters.

I echo everything you said. Really think Djokovic is the best player right now and I don't think it is that close. I am a HUGE Fedal fan both don't think either will hold off Djokovic much longer. Federer's play this year has been a monumental disappointment.

Considering you are the same clown who said last year it would shock you if Sharapova wouldnt win Wimbledon last year while she was in pitiful form and had a major shoulder injury, nothing from you is a surprise. The reason previous posters are doubting Nadal winning Hamburg is that his feet were in horrible condition after his loss in Rome which was only a few days ago. Of course it is possible he could recover, but it is quite reasonable for people to doubt he wont in time, and for the record I am a Nadal fan. Clowns like you are what made these forums good comedic relief.

I was a few months off about Maria, but I was right in predicting that she was on the verge of dominating. If I recall correctly you were adamant that she wouldn't win another major.

But I don't want to wrestle with you over this. You're entitled to your opinions.
