How is TV coverage in other countries besides the US?

Over here, ESPN and NBC have huge departments staffed by thousands who devote every waking minute to making sure we get the worst possible coverage.

Not showing live matches, endless replays of the same match, ignoring foreign players, editing a tape delayed match, delaying coverage for college basketball, loooong commercial breaks, revealing results before showing the match and many many more - they have lots of tricks to keep their viewers happy. And lets not forget preventing anyone else (like Tennis Channel, US network) from doing a decent job, to ensure the level of crappiness.

I'm wondering if people outside get a better deal.

I have a "free view" box which costs about $35 over here in the UK...for free on BBCI we get every big french open match (well whatever is on the main 2 courts)...I cant argue with that...I think its great!

Eurosport is great too, shoes loads of coverage and of course is available in every European country, I would have to say its one of my favourite sports channels out of all of them, plus with eurosport you get Game, Set and Mats!!!

Eurosport + National TV station equal you get to see everything going on unles match is on court 8 and smaller ones, which are not covered. The same goes for all the Slams. As for the Master series events we have Sport Club cable chanel, feeds live all the master series from start ot finish. National TV coveres Serbs, regardless of what they play. For even smaller tourneys we have Eurosport again, which covers Queens, Estoril, Roterdam and others.

Pretty neat.

Yep, have to agree.

We are a bit spoilt with what we get.

Between Sky, BBC and Eurosport we seem to have most things covered.

Cmon. You pay 30 thousand pounds for a decent car and they can buy a Merck convertable for 25 thousand worthless dollars ( three times less ). Us has its charms.

I thought this thread was about tennis coverage in different Countries though, not car prices? ;)

But then again you don't need to drive in most cities in Europe, compared to the joke of a public transport system in the US. You also don't have idiots and soccer moms blocking the road in giant SUV's.

And ummm, the commentary is better on the few Eurosport/Sky clips I've seen. There, back to tennis :)

Only during the first half though, once the quarters, semis and finals began they starts at about 9/10/11 PM Australian time.

Foxsports covers all the grand slams major matches of each tournament days and also masters series and the occasion exhibitions (nadal VS gasquet, roger Vs pete matches) and world team tennis and blackrock senior tour championship + ATP tennis show sometimes.

Channel 7 is the official partner of AUS open also delivers great coverage and Channel 9/7 delivers wimbledon as well

When I lived in Germany I thought the basically commercial free live coverage was pretty cool. Instead of going to a commercial at every change over, the camera just stayed on the players.

Yes it's the best, I hate commercials ruining the flow.
I've been in the US during grand slams trying to watch tennis and not only is the coverage poor (unless you like endless Roddick/Williams matches repeated) but you also have to put up with the worst, most patronising advertisements during changeovers.
On BBCi the commentary just continues and you see the players and the crowd during the changeovers with no interuptions. There are no advertisements AT ALL.

yeah, thats one of the things I like about Wimbledon and Queens (or is Queens only on eurosport now?), even though eurosports adverts are short sometimes they cut out the first point of the game or something

So far Queens has always been on the BBC, but I usually get the best coverage of all: I go there, as it's near where I live :)

I know I wouldnt pay 30 thousand pounds for a car...I wouldnt spend more than 10K...no need for one anyway where I live...UK has good public transport.

No offence but I could never live in the US...I love the UK too much :)

Who are the two Eurosport commentators on the Safin - Federer AO semi video on youtube? Personally I think those two are the best commentary pairing in tennis.

Our coverage on Dutch national tv is decent. We've got play from 11:00 till 17:30. On the website you can always watch what's going on on Chatrier. After half past 5 you got to switch to eurosport. The commentators on both channels are quite annoying, though I like the english eurosport commentators a lot better. We've got Jan Siemerink on Dutch tv, and Kristie Boogert at Eurosport. It's pretty good, but I would always like a better match-selection U know. No Nadal-Belluci and Federer-Querrey, but Wawrinka-Kohlschreiber, Seppi-Ancic tough tight matches, at least on paper.

We (Canada) have had full LIVE coverage of the 2 weeks, sometimes TTC feed with Aussie/British commentaors, sometimes ESPN international 7 hours a day starting at 7 am + the French sports channel that makes sure we saw the french players. NBC LIVE for both finals, and I'd forgotten how irritating Robinson and Mary C... can't somebody tell her to shut up when the game is being played and save her stupid anecdotes for her friends. I think i'll fomd it online tomorrow if I can find a good one & use their commentary and mute the sound on the NBC broadcast.

I have no idea why they show so much tennis in Canada, because the sudience must be minuscule. Must be the CEO of TSN who loves tennis, because we get the same sort of coverage for all the slams and all the European masters. Lucky us.

TTC has never applied for permission to include Canada, although cable companies have told me they would certainly make it available.

just when i think Grand Slam tournament coverage can't get any worse, it just keeps getting worse and worse with each tournament!

We here in South Africa have full live coverage of all the Grand Slams and ATP Masters Series events on Sattelite (DSTV SuperSport Channels). Plus highlights packages of th previous days play, the next morning. The US Open is on ESPN which is also part of the sports channels included. Subscription is the equivalent of $70 per month.

Here in Venezuela is really awesome, in regular cable you have ESPN and ESPNdos and they star the broadcasting live when is dark in the morning, untill noon and most of the time later than that. Then at night they show the highlights of the day. I have DirectTV and the first week they made a special coverage of six courts, really awesome.
All the masters are shown by ESPN and the regular tournaments are carried by Fox Sports Latinoamerica, TyC Sports and a Local Network called Meridiano TV that basically air the same tournaments The Tennis Channel have.

We get the same ESPN as you do in Canada because it always says VIVO in th e top right hand corner, only we get British commentators. Sometimes they start player interviews on our feed and it's
interesting to me to hear Gonzalez or Nadal speaking Spanish because we always hear them speak English.

I'm getting 8 hours or more of live coverage of the FO on ESPN-Star Sports. The semis and finals will be live in the evening. Plus highlights and replays shown the next day.

I get about 2-3 hours live of all ATP Masters, (which does not cover much - just covers one match) but something is better than nothing in a 3rd world country. All QF's and semis, though :)

The time of day in Asia is perfect for the European season incl FO and WO.

AO starts at 4 am or so, but then its like all day.

USO is the problem -- it runs all night. Same problem with the US hard court matches (Miami, Pacific Life etc --- all late night sessions) - totally wrecks my body clock -- and i hate watching edited replays the next day.

after living in the US and seeing NBC/CBS tennis coverage, i can vouch that it sucks..


here in asia, it shows EVERYTHING. even the coin toss and changeovers.

screw american broadcasting. it sucks.

Eurosport has the best coverage with expert commentators (usually old playing pro's - but almost all of them are excellent at commentating) :D

They show live tennis from 12 to 7 each day. 7 hours of live tennis.
All the master series events are covered by Danish TV2 Sport - they also have some really good and serious commentators.
